Splinterlands Weekly Battle | The Gelatinous Scavenger

Weekly Battle Theme: Scavenger - The ability to gain 1 max health each time any monster dies. My poison of choice: the Gelatinous Cube

Rarity: Common

Element: Neutral

Attack: None

Abilities: Scavenger at level 1, Heal at level 6

Whenever I encountered the Gelatinous Cube in the past, I get very alert. "This thing never dies" I whisper to myself. And for most of the battles where I face the Cube as my opponent, it is true.

And for that reason, I decided to grab myself a Cube with spare WAX I had in AtomicHub. To be precise, I bought 3 at 1 WAX each (about $0.13) to combine to a level 2 card. Now I can be the one with a monster that never dies if I play my cards right.

The battle commences. 29 Mana cap for this one with the Explosive Weaponry playing field. This is the perfect time to use the Cube in the second position to the tank to absorb all the deaths that will eventually occur when both sides get blasted out of its misery.

Let the battle begin.

Gameplay

I chose Zintar Mortalis as my splinter - this was to complete my daily quest and having a gut feel that the opponent will assemble a Melee heavy team. My instinct was right. The opponent chose Wizard of Eastwood (minus 2 shield) which only impacted my tank, Goblin Mech.

What went right

As I expected, both teams got blasted from each attack left and right. The Gelatinous Cube in the second position is perfect as it absorbs the blasts to the tank and as monsters die, scavengers with +1 health. Even if Goblin Mech gets defeated, my Grim Reaper will have some time behind the Cube to do some damage to hopefully wipe out the entire team.

It never got to that point.

Standout card: Gelatinous Cube gets MVP for this round as it absorbed all the blasts and scavenged from the death of others. As a quite a high mana card though, it is hard to use in low mana battles. A shout out to Furious Chicken and the Battling Ram as their demise was another +2 health to the Cube.

Learnings

Despite the other team having a total of 9 attack in total (after the minus 1 Melee from Zintar Mortalis), 1 attack above my team, the fact that I had the Cube to absorb the blasts compared to the opponent was a huge advantage. It was a close game in the end, but a thoughtful win on my part.

What's your normal line up with the Gelatinous Cube? What are some other good monsters with Scavenger ability that I should look out for?
