It was a night without stars or moon. The sky was so cloudy and the rain was falling as if it had carried in its clouds the entire water reserve of the planet.

Between the noise of the thunder and the drops falling hard on the roof, I could hear a desperate meowing.

Although my parents wanted to stop me, I armed myself with umbrellas and boots and went out to look for him. The dim light in the house didn't help much, but I tried to guide myself by the sound of the kitten calling for help.

I felt desperately that his voice was fading with the passing of time, and although I went through a good part of the garden, I couldn't find him, and in tears I returned home all soaked.

The rain stopped outside the house, but the rain in my eyes shot up in such a way that I could not stop crying: I could not save him! I reproached myself.

With such an amount of water, I doubted that the feline would have been saved.

Mom arrived with a cup of chamomile tea, trying to help me calm my sadness and help me fall asleep after all this tragedy.

Come the next day, the sadness was still intact. She was not a cat lover, but she was a lover of life, and the thought of not being able to save him weighed heavily on her soul.

As she ate breakfast, almost listlessly, she heard a faint meowing sound outside. She thought it was her head playing tricks on her, but at home the others heard it too, so Daniela went out again, now in daylight, to look for the kitten.

She had to probe the area in great detail, because with the naked eye she could not see where the animal was, until she reached a drain in which it had been enclosed.

He managed to open it and take out the cat, it was yellow with white stripes, it was so soaked that its fur was stuck to its body. He was no more than 6 months old. He looked at her with grateful eyes, while she held him close to her body to keep him warm, and although she was ready to go out, she didn't mind getting her clothes wet to take him to shelter.

At home she dried him carefully, fed him and did not go to work in the morning that day, with the excuse of an upset stomach. He preferred to stay with his new friend and check that everything was all right before leaving him in his parents' care.

Already dry, he looked different, he was a beautiful species. His eyes showed a love you wouldn't see in just any cat. She decided to keep him, she named him Leon, and since then, she has dedicated herself to rescuing animals from the street and finding them homes.

Leon awakened in Daniela a motivation of solidarity, a little different from what others usually show.
