I have an old Tokina ATX-PRO 100mm f/2.8 d MACRO lens discontinued by the brand in 2020.... That "thing" weighs about half a kilogram and is not stabilized, but it has become my most frequent companion since I bought it in 2010 (as I seem to remember).
Tengo un viejo lente Tokina ATX-PRO 100mm f/2.8 d MACRO descontinuado por la marca en 2020... Esa "cosa" pesa cerca del medio kilogramo y no es estabilizado, pero se ha convertido en mi compañero más frecuente desde que lo compré en 2010 (según creo recordar).

I use this old lens for just about anything. I carry it for street and portrait photography, but where this lens feels "most comfortable" is in nature recording small details.
Utilizo este viejo lente para casi cualquier cosa. Lo llevo para hacer fotos de calle y retratos, pero en donde este lente se siente "más cómodo" es en la naturaleza registrando pequeños detalles.

Its sharpness at any aperture is something to be admired, its ability to absorb light is still amazing as far as I'm concerned.... However, the fact that it is not stabilized made it a sort of "apnea competition trainer" for me 😂 and it has made me develop "super powers" like shooting between pulsations of my heart, stop breathing and learn to use my elbows, my chin and even my knees as "simulated tripods"... But that's maybe the nicest thing about this lens!... It forces me to "take the picture concentrating on what I do"!.
Su nitidez en cualquier apertura es algo digno de admiración, su capacidad para absorber luz sigue siendo asombrosa en lo que a mi respecta... Sin embargo, el hecho de no ser estabilizado lo convirtió en una especie de "entrenador para competencias de apnea" para mi 😂 y me ha hecho desarrollar "súper poderes" como disparar entre pulsaciones de mi corazón, dejar de respirar y aprender a usar mis codos, mi barbilla e incluso mis rodillas como "trípodes simulados"... ¡Pero eso es quizás lo más lindo de este lente!... ¡Me obliga a "hacer la foto concentrado en lo que hago"!.

Fue un lente diseñado para montura Nikon F y formato de cuadro completo (FX) pero funciona correctamente en mi vieja Nikon D7000 con sensor tamaño DX. Inclusive llegué a usarla en una Nikon D3100 de manera perfecta, salvo por el hecho de que al no tener ese modelo un motor incorporado de auto enfoque, tuve que usar el lente en modo manual todo el tiempo.
It was a lens designed for Nikon F mount and full frame format (FX) but it works fine on my old Nikon D7000 with DX size sensor. I even got to use it on a Nikon D3100 perfectly, except for the fact that since that model did not have a built-in autofocus motor, I had to use the lens in manual mode all the time.

The wide 9-blade diaphragm provides extremely nice bokeh even at apertures of f/9 and closer. And if you get used to using wide apertures, then it becomes what I call "a tireless generator of lovely backgrounds". Even using it as a telephoto lens in street photography provides dramatic blur and eloquent, razor-sharp close-ups.
El amplio diafragma de 9 hojas brinda un bokeh extremadamente agradable aún con aperturas de f/9 y más cerradas. Y sí uno se acostumbra a usar grandes aperturas, entonces se convierte en lo que yo llamo "un incansable generador de fondos adorables". Inclusive, el usarlo como un teleobjetivo en fotografías callejeras, brinda desenfoques dramáticos y primeros planos elocuentes y muy nítidos.

I think the "sweet spot" of this lens is around the f/7.1 aperture, but for me it's a bit difficult to decide because, as I said at the beginning, it's very sharp in all ranges. Focusing is slow, admittedly, plus the shift of the optical group during focusing is quite long. However, this lens has the "charming feature" of having a switch to limit the focus to avoid wasting time when using it for things other than macro photography.
Creo que el "punto dulce" de este lente está alrededor de la apertura f/7.1, pero para mi es algo difícil de decidir pues, como dije al principio, es muy nítido en todos los rangos. El enfoque es lento, eso hay que reconocerlo, además el desplazamiento del grupo óptico durante el enfoque es bastante largo. Sin embargo, este lente tiene el "encantador detalle" de poseer un interruptor para limitar el enfoque y así evitar pérdidas de tiempo cuando lo usamos para cosas distintas a la macro fotografía.

Manual focus is pleasingly smooth and accurate like few other lenses I have used. Plus the area for manipulating the focus range is wide and robust like everything else on this lens. In fact, over these 13 years, I have dropped it, gotten it wet and dusty and it still works to this day without a hitch. My lens has a couple of fungi on the margins of one of the internal optical elements, but thanks to their location they do not affect the captured image, so I have not been forced to open it to clean it (which I dread, as it is not a single lens but an optical piece full of parts).... So since I discovered these fungi I've been giving it its "natural ultraviolet baths" by taking more frequent pictures of it under our superb and inclement tropical sun. Fortunately that stopped the mushrooms from growing since I discovered them a couple of years ago.
El enfoque manual es placentero, suave y preciso como pocos lentes que haya yo usado. Además el área para manipular el rango de enfoque es amplia y robusta como todo en este lente. De hecho, a lo largo de estos 13 años, se me ha caídos, se ha mojado y se ha tapado de polvo y sigue funcionando hasta hoy sin novedad alguna. Mi lente tiene un par de hongos en los márgenes de uno de los elementos ópticos internos, pero gracias a su localización no afectan la imagen capturada, así que no me he visto obligado a abrirlo para limpiarlo (cosa la cual me da terror, pues no se trata de un lente simple sino de una pieza óptica repleta de partes)... Así que desde que descubrí esos hongos me limito ha darle sus "baños ultravioleta naturales" llevándole a hacer fotos con mayor frecuencia bajo nuestro soberbio e inclemente sol tropical. Afortunadamente eso detuvo el crecimiento de los hongos desde que los descubrí hace un par de años atrás.

Gee, I was actually planning to make a short text post today, but apparently "writing longer" is something I have hard to avoid. The intention was to provide brief technical details about this old companion of mine, which is almost like a "pet"... According to what I have read in some forums, it is likely that I will die and he will live on 😂, since it is an optical piece designed to last a lifetime and these TOKINA people are very good at making those "indestructible lenses" so I hope that someone who loves photography will inherit it, even if it is as a vintage piece for collection.
Caray, en realidad pensaba hacer un post con poco texto hoy, pero por lo visto "escribir largamente" es algo que me cuesta evitar. La intención era brindar detalles técnicos breves sobre este viejo compañero mío, el cual es ya casi como una "mascota"... Según he leído en algunos forums, es probable que yo muera y él siga vivo 😂, pues se trata de una pieza óptica diseñada para durar toda la vida y esta gente de TOKINA es muy buena haciendo esos "lentes indestructibles" así que espero que alguien que ame la fotografía lo herede, aunque sea como una pieza vintage para colección.

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth. Subsequently the images are exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3. and/or Photoscape.
NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografías capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, posteriormente procesadas en Adobe Camera RAW para realizar ajustes relativos a la luz, la nitidez, el contraste y la profundidad. Luego estas imágenes se exportaron a formato JGP sobre el cual se realizaron pequeñas modificaciones, como enderezarlas y añadir marcas de agua, utilizando PhotoScape 3.6.3. y/o Photoscape.
