this is a continuation of an earlier post from the wonderful rocks of the easternmost part of rakke. it is one of the most dramatic sections of the local coastline here
ancient glaciers not only polished the rock surface smooth and rounded but also sculpted sublime forms that are a magnet to the eye and camera.
the delightfully smooth formations are contrasted by obvious zones of crystal deposits with rough sharp surfaces
and rainwater pools with vegetation such as algae or wildflowers and grasses
i'm not completely satisfied with this 9/16 shot but i wanted to convey the height of the rock and at the same time feature change of coloration from dark to light as well as the cracks.
while i have a natural affinity for cracks in general, this elegant one must be my favorite of them all, in rocks that is.
and there are many to choose among
there are several tiny narrow inlets separating the rocks amd making it far more adventurous to scramble around. it's definitely not a simple stroll.
but those inlets are almost invisible until you get closer. the lighthouse in the distance is on an island about 1.5 km out to sea. it marks the western entrance to the sound where Stavern is located. i have reduced the contrast in this shot to try to soften their appearance.
but increased it here to harden the crystals
and once again decreased the contrast to soften but increased the saturation to compensate for the dulled color. i especially like the upper part where the wavy shape of the rocks mimic the clouds, or vice versa.
i still have shots remaining from these amazing rocks but i realize not everybody is as fond of exposed rock as i am and they may seem repetitious. i am sure most people would become interested had they lived here. anyway i might post once again from here later.
