Hola amigos hoy quiero compartir con ustedes la historia de mi amiga Martha y su hijo Estevens, quien padece de trastorno del espectro autista. Desde que lo conocí, me di cuenta de que esta familia tenía una vida muy particular, llena de retos y adaptaciones constantes. Esto es porque la condición de su hijo afecta muchos aspectos de su día a día. Desde que era un niño muy pequeño, Estevens presentó dificultades en la comunicación y en la interacción social, lo que llevó a su diagnóstico de autismo. A pesar de esto, la familia de Martha siempre ha hecho todo lo posible para que su hijo se sienta amado y cuidado.
Uno de los retos más grandes que Martha ha enfrentado es con respecto a la educacion. Estevens tiene un ritmo de aprendizaje diferente al de los niños sin autismo, por lo que ha sido necesario buscar recursos y profesionales especializados que le puedan brindar una educación adecuada. De verdad que admiro a Martha cuando la veo en acción educando con amor a su querido hijo.

Por ejemplo, es muy habilidoso en la tecnología y le encanta desarmar y armar computadoras. También tiene una memoria prodigiosa, lo que le permite recordar detalles que otros pasarían por alto.
Hello friends, today I want to share with you the story of my friend Martha and her son Estevens, who suffers from autism spectrum disorder. Since I met him, I realized that this family had a very particular life, full of challenges and constant adaptations. This is because their son's condition affects many aspects of their day-to-day life. Since he was a very young child, Estevens presented difficulties in communication and social interaction, which led to his diagnosis of autism. Despite this, Martha's family has always done everything possible to make their son feel loved and cared for.
One of the biggest challenges Martha has faced is with regard to education. Estevens has a different learning pace than children without autism, so it has been necessary to seek out resources and specialized professionals who can provide him with an appropriate education. In addition, Martha has had to be very creative in the way she communicates with her son, since verbal communication is not her strong suit. I truly admire Martha when I see her in action as she lovingly educates her beloved son.
However, despite the challenges, I have noticed that Estevens has outstanding intelligence in some areas. For example, he is very skilled in technology and loves to take apart and put together computers. He also has a prodigious memory, which allows him to remember details that others would overlook.
HABLANDO DEL CAMBIO CLIMATICO
Recuerdo una vez que estaba conversando con Martha acerca de algunas noticias recientes que había leído en el periódico. Estevens estaba en la sala con nosotros, jugando con sus juguetes. De repente, Estevens se acercó a mí y me preguntó: "Oye, ¿tú estás hablando de lo que salió en el periódico ayer sobre el cambio climático?" Me sorprendió mucho su pregunta, ya que no había mencionado específicamente ese tema en nuestra conversación.
Le respondí que sí, y él continuó: "¿Sabes que los científicos dicen que el cambio climático está provocando un aumento en el nivel del mar?" Me quedé impresionado por su conocimiento y su capacidad para captar información relevante.
Martha se sonrió al ver mi cara de sorpresa y me dijo que a Estevens le encantaba ver documentales y leer libros sobre diferentes temas, especialmente relacionados con la ciencia y la naturaleza. De verdad que no podía creer como podía recordar detalles específicos y aplicarlos en conversaciones inesperadas.
La familia de Martha se ha adaptado a las limitaciones de Estevens desde mi punto de vista, de una manera admirable. Por ejemplo, en su casa hay ciertas rutinas y reglas que ayudan a Estevens a sentirse más seguro y cómodo. También han aprendido a reconocer las señales de que su hijo está a punto de tener una crisis emocional y han desarrollado estrategias para ayudarlo a manejarla.
TALKING ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE
I remember one time I was having a conversation with Martha about some recent news I had read in the newspaper. Estevens was in the living room with us, playing with his toys. Suddenly, Estevens came up to me and asked, "Hey, are you talking about what was in the paper yesterday about climate change?" I was very surprised by his question, as I had not specifically mentioned that topic in our conversation.
I replied that I had, and he continued, "Did you know that scientists say that climate change is causing sea level rise?" I was impressed by his knowledge and ability to pick up on relevant information.
Martha smiled when she saw my surprised face and told me that Estevens loved to watch documentaries and read books on different topics, especially related to science and nature. I really couldn't believe how she could remember specific details and apply them in unexpected conversations.
Martha's family has adapted to Estevens' limitations, in my view, in an admirable way. For example, there are certain routines and rules in their home that help Estevens feel more secure and comfortable. They have also learned to recognize the signs that their son is about to have an emotional crisis and have developed strategies to help him manage it.
TODOS TIENEN QUE COMPARTIR
En una oportunidad Estevens estaba jugando con sus hermanos en la sala. Martha les había preparado un aperitivo para compartir, pero Estevens estaba teniendo dificultades para compartir sus alimentos con los demás.
Mientras los otros niños estaban felices de tomar un bocado y pasar la bolsa de galletas, Estevens no quería compartir. Él agarraba la bolsa con fuerza y se la llevaba cerca de su cuerpo, tratando de protegerla de los demás. Martha estaba tratando de hablar con él y explicarle que tenía que compartir, pero Estevens estaba demasiado ansioso para escuchar.

EVERYONE HAS TO SHARE
Once Estevens was playing with his siblings in the living room. Martha had prepared a snack for them to share, but Estevens was having difficulty sharing his food with the others.
While the other children were happy to take a bite and pass the bag of crackers, Estevens didn't want to share. He was clutching the bag tightly and holding it close to his body, trying to shield it from the others. Martha was trying to talk to him and explain that he had to share, but Estevens was too anxious to listen.
At that moment, I could see the frustration in Martha's eyes as she tried to handle the situation. She knew Estevens was having a hard time sharing, but she also wanted to make sure the other children didn't feel left out. Finally, Martha took the bag of cookies and divided it into equal shares for each child, making sure they all had the same amount. She then handed Estevens' share to him and explained that everyone should share and that included him as well.
Martha ha aprendido muchas cosas para que Estevens tenga una buena calidad de vida. Por ejemplo, ha tenido que educarse en la condición de su hijo, aprender sobre las terapias que le pueden ayudar y estar siempre en contacto con otros padres de niños con autismo para compartir experiencias y conocimientos. Además, ha desarrollado una gran paciencia y ternura para comunicarse con su hijo y entender sus necesidades.
Ahora les voy a contar lo que reflexiono al ver a Estivens, que ya es un hombre y pensar que lo conocí siendo un niño de cinco años y ahora mismo ya tiene 23. La historia de Martha y Estevens me ha enseñado que la vida en familia puede ser muy diversa y que cada uno tiene sus propios retos. Sin embargo, también he aprendido que la adaptación, la creatividad y el amor pueden ayudar a superar cualquier obstáculo. En este sentido, es importante reconocer la inteligencia y las habilidades que cada persona tiene, más allá de sus limitaciones. ¡ qué buen ejemplo de perseverancia y amor!

Martha has learned many things so that Estevens has a good quality of life. Now I am going to tell you what I reflect when I see Estivens, who is already a man and to think that I met him as a five year old boy and now he is already 23 years old. The story of Martha and Estevens has taught me that family life can be very diverse and that everyone has their own challenges. However, I have also learned that adaptation, creativity and love can help overcome any obstacle. In this sense, it is important to recognize the intelligence and abilities that each person has, beyond their limitations. what a good example of perseverance and love!
