Hola querida comunidad, Esta es mi participación en el reto de escritura creativa sobre el tema del amor como fuerza para someter los desastres naturales.
Hace poco más de un año, la ciudad de Las Tejerías, en Venezuela, fue azotada por una de las peores inundaciones de su historia. El agua subió tan rápido que muchos habitantes no tuvieron tiempo de evacuar sus hogares y se encontraron varados en techos y balcones, con la angustia y el miedo a flor de piel. Fue en medio de esta desolación que yo, como muchos otros, observé un espíritu de solidaridad que inspiró a toda la comunidad.
Hello dear community, This is my participation in the creative writing challenge on the theme of love as a force to subdue natural disasters.
A little over a year ago, the city of Las Tejerías, in Venezuela, was hit by one of the worst floods in its history. The water rose so fast that many inhabitants did not have time to evacuate their homes and found themselves stranded on roofs and balconies, with anguish and fear at the surface. It was in the midst of this desolation that I, like many others, observed a spirit of solidarity that inspired the entire community.
Recuerdo claramente aquel día cuando salí de mi casa, con la lluvia torrencial golpeando mi rostro. Las calles estaban cubiertas de agua y eso me causo algo de temor. Inmediatamente pensé en mi familia de El Limón estado Aragua, ya que hace unos años esa población fue victima de una tragedia terrible. Afortunadamente en El limón las lluvias solo causaron inundaciones leves así como en mi localidad, sin embargo un testigo ocular de las inundaciones de Tejerías me ha contado detalles que encaja bien con el concepto de como el amor vence las adversidades. Se llama Juan Castillo.
Después de muchas horas lloviendo comenzó lo que temía todo el mundo, comenzaron los deslizamiento de tierras y desborde de ríos. Sin pensarlo dos veces, Juan se unió a ellos. Comenzó a caminar por las calles inundadas, buscando a personas que necesitaran ayuda. No tardaron en encontrar a una mujer que estaba atrapada en el techo de su casa, con su hijo pequeño a su lado. La corriente del agua era demasiado fuerte y no podían moverse. Entre varios logramos rescatarlos y llevarlos a un lugar seguro.
Más tarde, mientras ayudaban a otras personas, se di cuenta de que no estaban solos en tan noble tarea. Había muchas personas más, en diferentes puntos de la ciudad, que estaban haciendo lo mismo. Vecinos ayudando a vecinos, desconocidos que se unían para salvar vidas y proteger a los más vulnerables. Fue un momento de unidad, un momento en el que todos eran uno, sin importar las diferencias.
I remember clearly that day when I left my house, with the torrential rain hitting my face. The streets were covered with water and that caused me some fear. I immediately thought of my family in El Limon, Aragua state, since a few years ago that town was the victim of a terrible tragedy. Fortunately in El Limon the rains only caused minor flooding as well as in my town, however an eyewitness of the floods in Tejerias has told me details that fits well with the concept of how love overcomes adversity. His name is Juan Castillo.
After many hours of rain, what everyone feared began, landslides and rivers overflowed. Without thinking twice, Juan joined them. He began to walk through the flooded streets, looking for people in need of help. It wasn't long before they found a woman who was trapped on the roof of her house, with her young son by her side. The water current was too strong and they were unable to move. Several of us managed to rescue them and take them to safety.
Later, while they were helping other people, they realized that they were not alone in such a noble task. There were many other people, in different parts of the city, who were doing the same. Neighbors helping neighbors, strangers coming together to save lives and protect the most vulnerable. It was a moment of unity, a moment where everyone was one, regardless of differences.
Juan sigue con su reflexión “Ese día, aprendí que el amor y la solidaridad son más fuertes que cualquier adversidad. A pesar de la lluvia, el miedo y la incertidumbre, la gente se unió para hacer lo que era necesario. Nos dimos cuenta de que solo juntos podíamos superar la tragedia y reconstruir nuestras vidas. Aquellos jóvenes que había visto al principio fueron el mejor ejemplo de esto, ellos organizaban las ayudas, se movilizaban, encontraban la forma de comunicarse con las autoridades y atraer atención a las situaciones más críticas”.
La inundación de Las Tejerías fue una experiencia difícil, pero también fue una oportunidad para demostrar lo mejor de nosotros mismos, de hecho en otras ciudades del país se unieron para reunir insumos ropa y cartas y enviarlos a los más desfavorecidos. Personas que nunca antes se habían conocido, trabajaron juntas para superar la adversidad, amigos y familiares que se apoyaban mutuamente, y a extraños que se trataban con respeto y solidaridad. Fue un momento de unión inolvidable.
A pesar de que ha pasado algún tiempo desde aquel día, el espíritu de solidaridad y amor sigue presente en la ciudad. La gente se ha unido para reconstruir sus hogares y para ayudar a aquellos que todavía necesitan ayuda. Es una lección que debemos recordar siempre, especialmente en los momentos más difíciles. El amor y la solidaridad pueden vencer cualquier adversidad, y en Las Tejerías se demostró. La frecuencia con la que ocurren los desastres naturales, podemos tener esperanza en la humanidad. En lugar de ver solo la devastación y el dolor que a menudo vienen con estos eventos, también podemos ver el amor y la solidaridad que surge en tiempos de necesidad. Cuando la naturaleza nos muestra su fuerza, podemos recordar que nuestra fuerza radica en nuestra capacidad para ayudarnos mutuamente y para demostrar nuestro amor y solidaridad.
Es importante recordar que no necesitamos esperar a que ocurra un desastre para demostrar nuestro amor y solidaridad. Siempre podemos hacer una diferencia en la vida de alguien, ya sea un vecino, un amigo o incluso un extraño. Al demostrar bondad, generosidad y empatía en nuestra vida cotidiana, podemos construir una comunidad fuerte y resistente que pueda resistir cualquier desastre que se presente.
Juan continues with his reflection "That day, I learned that love and solidarity are stronger than any adversity. Despite the rain, fear and uncertainty, people came together to do what was necessary. We realized that only together could we overcome the tragedy and rebuild our lives. Those young people I had seen at the beginning were the best example of this, they organized aid, mobilized, found ways to communicate with the authorities and brought attention to the most critical situations".
The flooding of Las Tejerías was a difficult experience, but it was also an opportunity to show the best of ourselves, in fact in other cities of the country they got together to gather supplies, clothes and letters and send them to the most disadvantaged. People who had never met before, worked together to overcome adversity, friends and family supporting each other, and strangers treating each other with respect and solidarity. It was an unforgettable moment of togetherness.
Although some time has passed since that day, the spirit of solidarity and love is still present in the city. People have come together to rebuild their homes and to help those who still need help. It is a lesson we should always remember, especially in the most difficult times. Love and solidarity can overcome any adversity, and in Las Tejerías it was demonstrated. The frequency with which natural disasters occur, we can have hope in humanity. Instead of seeing only the devastation and pain that often come with these events, we can also see the love and solidarity that arises in times of need. When nature shows us its strength, we can remember that our strength lies in our ability to help each other and to show our love and solidarity.
It is important to remember that we do not need to wait for disaster to strike to show our love and solidarity. We can always make a difference in someone's life, whether it is a neighbor, a friend or even a stranger. By demonstrating kindness, generosity and empathy in our daily lives, we can build a strong and resilient community that can withstand whatever disaster strikes.
