Hello to all of you. I hope you are well. I want to take the opportunity to participate in this creative writing challenge, today is the last day to do it. The topic of love is broad and has many points or sides to approach it. But when I read the theme of this challenge, I immediately remembered some events experienced in the pandemic. However, a little before the pandemic I witnessed a show of love from an entire town to a person who suffered an accident and some rejected him to let him die. This is the real life story of an indigenous man and the town where he lived for years.

Hola a todos. Espero se encuentren bien. Quiero aprovechar de participar en este reto de escritura creativa, hoy justo el último día para hacerlo. El tema del amor es amplio y tiene muchas puntas o lados para abordarlo. Pero al leer el tema de este reto, de inmediato recordé algunos sucesos vividos en la pandemia. Sin embargo, un poco antes de la pandemia fui testigo de una muestra de amor de todo un pueblo hacia una persona que sufrió un eccidente y algunos lo rechazaron para dejarlo morir. Esta es la historia de la vida real, de un indígena y el pueblo donde por años vivió.

I had the privilege of living for a few years in a town in the state of Bolivar, Venezuela. Very close to the Venezuelan Amazon, and as expected there are a variety of indigenous ethnicities on that side. These indigenous people live in their jungle areas, but there are some who interact with the people in general, provide services and help others with planting and harvesting. This is the case of this indigenous man from the Eñapa ethnic group. He lived near the center of town, but at the same time on the outskirts, in a place with a lot of land because he liked to plant. He also offered his services to work in the gardens of the houses or to help harvest some people's crops.

Yo tuve el privilegio de vivir unos años en un pueblo del estado bolivar, Venezuela. Muy cerca del Amazonas venezolano, y como es de esperarse hay una variedad de etnias indígenas de ese lado. Estos indígenas viven en sus zonas de selva, pero hay algunos que interactúan con las personas en general, les prestan servicios y ayudan a otros con las siembras y cosechas. Este es el caso de este indígena de la etnia eñapa. El vivía cerca del centro del pueblo, pero a la vez hacia las afueras, en un sitio con mucho terreno porque le gustaba sembrar. También ofrecía sus servicios para trabajar en los jardines de las casas o a ayudar a recoger las cosechas de algunos.

This indigenous man earned his living this way, and the people of the town loved him very much, or at least that is what they showed. He also hunted animals that are commonly consumed for their meat and that live in the jungle, which helped him even more in an economic sense, since he sold these prey or exchanged them for food and other items he needed. Unfortunately, there is a bad attitude towards these people who are indigenous, they are treated as less and some even show their displeasure towards them with violent words. When I heard this it made my heart shrink, because they are very simple and hardworking people. Some of them have gained a bad reputation for being violent or annoying when it comes to asking for food, but everyone is judged by some.

Este indígena se ganaba la vida así, y las personas del pueblo lo querían bastante, o al menos eso es lo que demostraban. Él también realizaba cacería de animales que es común que se consuman sus carnes y que viven en la selva, con esta se ayudaba aún más en sentido económico, pues vendía estas presas o las cambiaba por comida y otros artículos que necesitaba. Lamentable, hay una mala actitud hacia estas personas que son indígenas, se les trata como menos y algunos hasta demuestran su desagrado hacia ellos con violencia de palabras. Cuando yo escuchaba esto se me encogía el corazón, pues son personas muy sencillas y trabajadoras. Algunos de ellos se han hecho mala fama por ser también violentos o fastidiosos a la hora de pedir comida, pero por unos se juzga a todos.

However, the indigenous man in this story had gained some acceptance, and it was demonstrated that the people appreciated him when he had a very dangerous accident. He was hunting in the jungle and as they do it at night or at dawn, the vision of these is scarce. While he was chasing a small animal, a tigrillo, or small mountain tiger that is common in this area, appeared to him. This indigenous man knows that if he runs it is worse for him, so he wounds this feline with his spear. Thinking that he had killed it, he tried to leave and it turned out that the animal was wounded and the fury of this one was worse, where it went over him and this Indian so that it did not bite him in the neck put his hand. The ocelot destroyed almost all of his hand, but in the end the indigenous man, in pain and all cut up, killed the feline.

Sin embargo el indígena de esta historia había logrado cierta aceptación, y quedó demostrado que el pueblo lo apreciaba cuando este tuvo un accidente súper peligroso. El estaba cazando selva adentro y como lo hacen de noche o madrugada, la visión de estos es escasa. Mientras el estaba detrás de un animalito, se le aparece un tigrillo, o tigre pequeño de montaña que es común en esta zona. Este indígena sabe que si corre es peor para el, así que hiere con su lanza a este felino. Pensando que lo había matado, se trató de ir y resulta que el animal quedó herido y la furia de este fue peor, dónde se le fue encima y este indígena para que no lo mordiera en el cuello metió su mano. El tigrillo le destrozó la mano casi toda, pero al final el indígena con dolor y todo cortado le dió muerte total a este felino.

Badly wounded, he spent the whole night in the jungle, when his family realized that he had not returned at the usual time, they went to look for him. After many hours they got him very badly wounded and because he had shed a lot of blood. They managed to get him to the village. Because the ambulatory, or health center, does not attend emergencies as serious as these, after looking for a vehicle, which was not easy to get, they finally managed to move him to a larger town with a better health center. There they gave him painkillers, where he spent days very badly with a broken hand, and they did not perform surgery, but barely healed him. After a few days they saw that he was hardly attended to, nor were they attentive to his wounds, and that is when they received the news that they could no longer attend to him, that he had to go home and there see how he would heal himself. These humble people, but human beings in the end, just like us, left disheartened and in their minds, which are strong, because they are used to getting hurt and surviving, they knew that something would happen to him.

Mal herido, paso toda la noche en la selva, cuando su familia se da cuenta que no ha vuelto a la hora de siempre, se van a buscarlo. Después de muchas horas lo consiguieron muy mal por las heridas y porque había votado mucha sangre. Logran sacarlo hasta el pueblo. Debido a que en el ambulatorio, o centro de salud, no atiende emergencias tan graves como esas, después de buscar un vehículo, que no fue fácil conseguir, al final logran trasladarlo a un pueblo más grande con un centro de salud mejor. Allí le dieron calmantes, dónde paso días muy mal con la mano destrozada que no le hicieron cirugía, sino que a duras penas le curaban. Luego de unos días ellos ven que ya casi no lo atienden, ni están pendientes de sus heridas y es cuando reciben la noticia que ya no lo pueden atender más, que tenía que irse a su casa y allí ver cómo se curaba el mismo. Esta gente humilde, pero seres humanos al final, igual que nosotros, se fueron descorazonados y en su mente que es fuerte, pues están acostumbrados a hacerse heridas y sobrevivir, sabían que algo pasaría con él.

This is where the people who always welcomed him and gave him affection, which he also earned by his personality and work, enter into the lesson of love. When the people found out, and saw the state of his hand, which surely needed to be amputated because he had already lost some fingers in the fight with the tigrillo, the people agreed to take care of this human being in need. A plan of action was applied that involved some of us, such as helping him and his family with food, since he was the one who worked for his family, there were shifts to bring him all the meals. Others if we could give money for his medicines we did it, and there was a nurse who was brave and was willing to cure his hand, without giving him much hope to save it but at least to free him from the strong infection he had. And so the days went by and every day this gentleman faced the treatment of his hand and wounds, which caused him pain and anguish. The whole town united and continued to take care of him with care so that he would at least save his life, and so it was.

Aquí es donde entra en la lección de amor el pueblo que siempre lo acogió y dió cariño, que él también se ganó por su personalidad y trabajo. Cuando el pueblo se enteró, y vieron el estado en que estaba su mano, que de seguro era para amputar pues ya había perdido algunos dedos en la pelea con el tigrillo, las personas se pusieron de acuerdo en cuidar de este ser humano necesitado. Se aplicó un plan de acción que nos involucro a algunos, como el ayudarlo a el y su familia con comida, pues el era el que trabajaba para su familia, habían turnos para llevarle todas las comidas. Otros si podíamos dar dinero para sus medicamentos lo hacíamos, y hubo una enfermera que fue valiente y estuvo dispuesta a curar su mano, sin darle muchas esperanza de salvarla pero al menos librarlo de la infección tan fuerte que tenía. Y así pasaron los días y este señor cada día se enfrentaba a las curas de su mano y heridas, que le causaban dolor y angustia. Todo el pueblo se unió y lo siguió cuidando con esmero para que él salvara al menos su vida, y así fue.

Thanks to the efforts of this nurse and those who collaborated with this indigenous man and his family, he saved his life. And although his hand did not look good at all, afterwards he showed his acquaintances how it had turned out, and even began to use it as he could to start working. He was a person who, thanks to his good attitude and the love and compassion of this town, was able to close that chapter of his life without losing his life. While in one place they closed the door on her, in another, love opened many doors. And in unity the inhabitants of this town demonstrated that it is possible to help someone, no matter their social position or ethnicity, and that in human beings there is love to give.

Gracias al empeño de esta enfermera y de los que colaboraron con este indígena y su familia, él salvó su vida. Y aunque su mano no quedó nada bien, después el de manera tan normal enseñaba a sus conocidos como había quedado, y hasta empezó a usarla como podía para empezar a trabajar. Fue una persona que gracias a su buena actitud y el amor y compasión de este pueblo pudo cerrar ese capítulo de su vida sin perder la vida. Mientras en un sitio le cerraron la puerta, en otro el amor hizo que se abrieran muchas. Y en unidad los habitantes de este pueblo demostaron que si se puede ayudar a alguien, no importando su posición social o etnia y que en los seres humanos hay amor para dar.

This experience made me have faith in people, that despite the abundance of violence and evil, there are still people with beautiful feelings and are willing to sacrifice themselves for others even if they are not members of their family and this touches the heart. Afterwards, when I saw this man, I would say to myself: "incredible that he was saved from that fatal accident". Thanks to the kindness and love of a people who went against what others were promoting, which was total abandonment, as if this human being did not deserve to be cared for and to live. With this I say goodbye, telling you that this story is engraved in me and still causes me deep sadness and at the same time joy to see the quality of human beings that still exist. Until next time.

Está experiencia me hizo tener fe en las personas, en que a pesar de que abunda la violencia y la maldad, aún hay personas con bonitos sentimientos y están dispuestos a sacrificarse por otros así no sean miembros de su familia y esto conmueve el corazón. Después cuando veía a este señor yo decía dentro de mí: " increíble que se salvo de ese accidente fatal". Gracias a la bondad y amor de un pueblo que fue en contra de lo que otros propiciaban, que era el abandono total, como si este ser humano no merecía ser atendido y vivir. Con esto me despido, diciéndoles que esta historia quedo grabada en mi y aún me causa profunda tristeza y a la vez alegría de ver la calidad de seres humanos que aún existen. Hasta una próxima oportunidad.
