I'm Lorentm, a passionate digital artist, and I'm super excited to share with you my latest creation for Zingtober, an amazing Holozing initiative based on the famous Inktober. Every day they challenge us with a new word, and today is my second day participating. The word of the day is "discover", and I couldn't resist doing a fan art of one of my favorite characters of the community: Grass Raccoon!
For this drawing, I decided to go for a monochromatic style, using black, white and a rich grayscale that adds depth and detail to the piece. Grass Raccoon is presented with a determined attitude, holding a magnifying glass in one hand, as if on the verge of a great discovery. I had a lot of fun designing his detective attire, complete with a hat adorned with a small leaf-shaped emblem that gives him a unique and mysterious touch.
The background is filled with dynamic lines that converge towards the center, suggesting movement, as if Grass Raccoon is immersed in an exciting quest. The details of the fur and the folds of his clothing are lovingly worked, highlighting soft textures that contrast with the sharp shadows of the rest of the scene.
Zingtober has been an amazing experience so far, and this drawing reflects the spirit of adventure and curiosity I feel with each challenge. Cada día nos retan con una nueva palabra, y hoy es mi segundo día participando. La palabra del día es "discover", y no pude resistirme a hacer un fan art de uno de mis personajes favoritos de la comunidad: ¡Grass Raccoon!
Para este dibujo, decidí apostar por un estilo monocromático, utilizando blanco, negro y una rica escala de grises que añade profundidad y detalles a la pieza. Grass Raccoon se presenta con una actitud decidida, sosteniendo una lupa en una mano, como si estuviera al borde de un gran descubrimiento. Me divertí mucho diseñando su atuendo de detective, completo con un sombrero adornado con un pequeño emblema en forma de hoja que le da un toque único y misterioso.
El fondo está lleno de líneas dinámicas que convergen hacia el centro, sugiriendo movimiento, como si Grass Raccoon estuviera inmerso en una emocionante búsqueda. Los detalles del pelaje y los pliegues de su ropa están trabajados con mucho cariño, resaltando texturas suaves que contrastan con las sombras marcadas del resto de la escena.

In the heart of the Holozing Forest, where nature and magic intertwine, lives Grass Raccoon, an astute and curious detective. Known for his ability to uncover the most hidden secrets, Grass Raccoon embarks on daily adventures, armed with his inseparable magnifying glass and sharp wit. His hat, adorned with a leaf, symbolizes his connection to nature and his commitment to protecting the forest. Each case he takes leads him to unknown and mysterious corners, from ancient ruins to enchanted clearings. Despite the challenges, his determination and adventurous spirit always guide him to the truth. Grass Raccoon not only solves mysteries, but also inspires other forest dwellers to value and care for their home.
En el corazón del Bosque de Holozing, donde la naturaleza y la magia se entrelazan, vive Grass Raccoon, un astuto y curioso detective. Conocido por su habilidad para descubrir los secretos más ocultos, Grass Raccoon se embarca en aventuras diarias, armado con su inseparable lupa y su ingenio agudo. Su sombrero, adornado con una hoja, simboliza su conexión con la naturaleza y su compromiso con proteger el bosque. Process / Proceso
The process of creating this Grass Raccoon fan art began, as always, with a preliminary sketch. For me, sketching is a very liberating phase, where I let ideas flow naturally. Here I concentrate on capturing Grass Raccoon's pose and expression, seeking to convey his curious and adventurous spirit. The lines are quick and light, allowing me to adjust the character's pose, define the perspective of the magnifying glass and make sure the whole drawing flows visually from the start.
Once I am satisfied with the sketch, I move on to outlining the drawing, giving it more structure and clarity. This step is crucial to define the main contours. I like to keep the lines clean and with a variable thickness, which gives dynamism to the character. At this stage, I pay attention to the small details of the design, such as the detective's hat and the textures of Grass Raccoon's fur, making sure the character retains that explorer feel I wanted to convey.
The next step is the coloring, although, in this case, working in black, white and grayscale, I focus more on the tonal values than on the colors themselves. This is where I start to build the overall atmosphere of the fan art, playing with different shades of gray to differentiate areas of light and shadow, as well as highlighting key elements such as the magnifying glass and the hat. This is a phase where I experiment a lot to find the right balance between darker and lighter tones.
After applying the base tones, comes one of my favorite moments: adding the shadows. This stage gives life to the illustration, creating volume and depth. In this fan art, the shadows reinforce the sense of mystery and adventure. I paid special attention to the fur and folds of the clothing, adding subtle shadows that suggest movement and texture without losing the softness of the character. I also worked on the shadows cast by the magnifying glass to give it a touch of realism.
Finally, I apply the glows, which in a monochromatic drawing are key to highlight the points of light. These small details give a special touch to the fan art, such as the subtle glow in the magnifying glass, which reinforces its role as an essential tool in the search for Grass Raccoon, and some reflections in the eyes that convey liveliness. Although the sparkles are subtle, they add a final spark that completes the sense of adventure and discovery I wanted to convey.
This process is always a mix of intuition and technique, but the end result makes every effort worthwhile.
El proceso de creación de este fan art de Grass Raccoon comenzó, como siempre, con un boceto preliminar. Para mí, el boceto es una fase muy liberadora, donde dejo que las ideas fluyan de manera natural. Aquí me concentro en capturar la pose y la expresión de Grass Raccoon, buscando transmitir su espíritu curioso y aventurero. Las líneas son rápidas y ligeras, lo que me permite ajustar la postura del personaje, definir la perspectiva de la lupa y asegurarme de que todo el dibujo fluya visualmente desde el principio.
Una vez que me siento satisfecha con el boceto, paso a delinear el dibujo, dándole más estructura y claridad. Este paso es crucial para definir los contornos principales. Me gusta mantener las líneas limpias y con un grosor variable, lo que le da dinamismo al personaje. En esta etapa, presto atención a los pequeños detalles del diseño, como el sombrero de detective y las texturas del pelaje de Grass Raccoon, asegurándome de que el personaje conserve ese aire de explorador que quería transmitir.
El siguiente paso es el coloreado, aunque, en este caso, al trabajar en blanco, negro y escala de grises, me centro más en los valores tonales que en los colores en sí. Aquí es donde comienzo a construir la atmósfera general del fan art, jugando con diferentes tonos de gris para diferenciar las áreas de luz y sombra, además de resaltar elementos clave como la lupa y el sombrero. Es una fase en la que experimento mucho para encontrar el balance adecuado entre los tonos oscuros y los más claros.
Después de aplicar los tonos base, llega uno de mis momentos favoritos: agregar las sombras. Esta etapa le da vida a la ilustración, creando volumen y profundidad. En este fan art, las sombras refuerzan la sensación de misterio y aventura. Puse especial atención en el pelaje y los pliegues de la ropa, añadiendo sombras sutiles que sugieren movimiento y textura sin perder la suavidad del personaje. También trabajé en las sombras proyectadas por la lupa para darle un toque de realismo.
Finalmente, aplico los brillos, que en un dibujo monocromático son clave para destacar los puntos de luz. Estos pequeños detalles le dan un toque especial al fan art, como el brillo sutil en la lupa, que refuerza su papel de herramienta esencial en la búsqueda de Grass Raccoon, y algunos reflejos en los ojos que transmiten vivacidad. Aunque los brillos son sutiles, añaden una chispa final que completa la sensación de aventura y descubrimiento que quería transmitir.
Este proceso es siempre una mezcla de intuición y técnica, pero el resultado final hace que cada esfuerzo valga la pena.
