| Greenhouse Millipede | 29/05/2026 | Bangladesh |
There are many small creatures in nature around us that we usually ignore. But if we look a little deeper, their lifestyle and appearance cannot fail to fascinate us. One such wonderful invertebrate is the greenhouse millipede, a silent worker in our ecosystem. You can see this if you look at the attached image. This little creature is perched perfectly on a green blade of grass. Its dark brown or black body and light yellow or cream wings on its sides. The color spots make it quite attractive. The contrast of its body color with the green background of the picture creates a unique and perfect work of art from nature.
They are not harmful insects. They mainly survive by eating decaying plants, dead leaves and organic waste. As a result, nutrients are returned to the soil, which helps increase soil fertility. The image reminds us that the beauty of nature lies not only in large forests or mountains, but also in the green grass beneath our feet and among these tiny creatures. If we see them in the garden or corner of the house, it is our responsibility to preserve this wonderful creation of nature and not kill them unnecessarily.
