Breynia is a genus in the flowering plant family Phyllanthaceae, first described in 1776. It is native to Southeast Asia, China, R茅union, the Indian subcontinent, New Guinea, and Australia.

The name Breynia is a conserved name, but it remains valid even if the same name has previously been used to refer to different plants. Breynia L. 1753 was included in Capparaceae, but that name was rejected. Here we discuss Breynia J.R.F.Forst. & G.Forst.

In the 2006 revision of Phyllanthaceae, Breynia was recommended for inclusion in Phyllanthus; however, new combinations in Phyllanthus for previous Breynia species have yet to be published.
