THE MAKING OF OUR TINY HOUSE ON THE HILLSIDE

There is a magic in that little world, home; it is a mystic circle that surrounds comforts and virtues never known beyond its hallowed limits. -Robert Southey

Welcome to our simple tiny house on the hillside. Flor here!

Let me tell you a story of why we created this tiny house.

Back in 2021 when I decided to continue my Master's Degree of Master of Arts in Education. I already had 30 units before I left the city and decided to work in the countryside. The pandemic causes a drastic change in education causing us to have classes online.

Living in a place where the signal is very poor, we have to hike up to the highest part of our place just to get a better and stable internet connection every day. It is really hard especially during the rainy season because the way up is so muddy. I remember one time we were caught up by a storm in our tent so we ended up so wet. Good thing we brought plastic with us to protect my laptop and cellphone from getting wet. That's the time we decided to build a tiny home on the mountain.

Rex was with me all the time and even though the way up was quite challenging for him, he continuously accompanied me. Thank you so much to my family especially my mother and boyfriend Rex for the love and support that they have given me.

THE BUILDING PROCESS

Bayanihan is a Filipino word derived from the word bayan meaning town, nation, or community in general. Our project was made possible because of the help of the community. It took us 4 weeks to finish the cabin since we built this only every weekend during our free time.

WEEK 1
During our first week, my family and I prepared the place for the house. We flatten some parts of the surface and my neighbors helped us build the base of the house by getting woods that were available in our area.

WEEK 2
The second week was quite challenging for us because of the rainy days. We had to carry the roofing from the roadside to the area where the tiny house is located. My uncle Boy and Kuya Jay put up the frame and the roof of the tiny cabin.

WEEK 3
On the third week, I asked my tatay Titong to help us put the windows, walls, and doors of our cabin since my uncle Boy was not available at that time.

WEEK 4
The last week of the building process was all about painting the walls and the roof. Rex and I enjoyed painting our cabin and we were happy to see the progress of the project. I also beautify the place by adding flowers around the house and my mom planted different crops around our tiny cabin. After, several weeks, I finished my Masteral Degree. Thanks to the help of everybody.

FINALLY!

My heart is always grateful to the people who have supported me all throughout my journey. Thank you to my father in heaven for always guiding me. Our tiny home reminds me that unity is so important for us to achieve our goals in life.
