Hello Hive

I started this sewing project earlier this week when I wanted to sew this colorful African print fabrics I was gifted by my friend. Not wishing to make something extravagant I had cut a flair and sew it into a boubou top and my choice design on it was a tulle net working I did around the hemming

Having sewn the blouse I had a hard thought thinking about what to sew for the skirt. I wanted something that will best fit the blouse. I showed it to some of my friends for suggestions, some said they will prefer a long skirt on it while others said they wish for a short skirt.

Personally I imagined that short skirt will be better hence I proceeded to cut and sew a short skirt.
Having seen the short skirt I realized that I have as much of the fabrics left, why not try sew a long skirt too so that my curiosity of which will fit better will be satisfied.

Cutting out a longer pencil skirt I had equally sewn that one too here

In order to add some a beautiful finishing touches I created a slit in the long skirt to make room for some tulle work

While I had pleated in some tulle along the side seam lines of the short skirt
These are the creative work I did on the two skirts to enhance their looks since the blouse has this similar decorations on it.

How to cut and sew the blouse

Folding fabric into 4parts
I used a 4” debth and width for the neckline but you can chose your base on preference

The length of my top is 20” and that was measured round like a flare

I turned the neckline with red bias and worked out tulle round about it.

Making the skirts

To sew the skirt I used 28” waistline and 32” hip line

Folding the fabric I had cut the waist connecting it to the knees and full length

The short skirt

Individual I have sewed both skirts and thought about the embellishment ideas for each. A slit won't be nice on the short skirt hence I have worked out the tulle design on the hip lines while the longer skirt had its own designs right on the slits line of the front block.

Both skirts became appealing to me eventually
One thing I have enjoyed this morning is the luxury of power supply which made my work much neater since I could iron the fabrics before sewing and also iron flat the seam lines as I sew along.

Adding band to both skirt here
Paper stay was added to the bands to make them stiffer with more fittings

Do you know how to fix zippers 😃

They give me headaches but I have no choice

The last thing is the photo blast where I can see both and be able to make better comparison. In the end I love both skirt and really indecisive about which one I prefer better.
