It was difficult burrowing under the shed. After an hour or so, I began to look for another approach.

The depth below the shed at this point was just a bit more than the head of the shovel. Note the rough edge of the tunnel roof at the top. I’ll cut that off straight later.

But there was still a boundary wall leading up to the shed. This would need to be cleared as well, so I went ahead and dig that out.

Above, you can see that the path back to the shed has now been fully cleared - just not to depth.

Above, here you can see that I cut the roof edge straight. I just used a circular saw and cut through the wood and shingles all at once.

I gathered brush from the surrounding area. Pretty much all of it came from the tree I cut down in the beginning, but there was some from other areas that needed to be trimmed.

First I weighed the brush down by pouring bucks of dirt in concentrated areas, and once the brush was secured I began to spread loads out to cover the brush uniformly.

I buried brush like this for several layers. Each layer was buried to the point that it could no longer be identified.

With the tunnel back to the shed completely covered, I stacked rocks along the back end of the shed so the entry way would be sealed off a little better.

Naturally, once the rocks were securely in place, I also covered them with dirt.

This is the view from inside the tunnel, facing towards the shed.

I didn’t get any pictures of it - perhaps I’ll get some at a later time - but I ran an extension cord through the floor and strung Christmas lights so I could see…it’s pitch black down there without them.

This is the view down the tunnel from the shed. The fire room at this point doesn’t look like a room at all, just a wall at the end of a tunnel - still have a lot of digging left to do, and now that it’s all underground it’s going to be much harder.

And one more shot of the shed, now half way covered on the rear side. There will definitely be more to come, so thanks as always for checking it out!
