That scent becomes an assumption for the presence of flies

Hello Guys ... How are you today ?

Chrysomya megacephala is a fly species that often dominates important locations, in forensic science it is known as a fly that likes liquid from corpses, not only attacks livestock and others, even often likes to be in plant locations, its presence in large populations, makes people suspicious, with the assumption that at a certain location there are carcasses (animals) and corpses (humans).

(ยฌChrysomya megacephala ยฎ2021ยฌ)

The information above is corroborated by several experiences of friends who are members of the forensic team in detecting a situation, he said, "If you see them in a closed location, with a large population, it can be said that at that point of location, there are corpses or carcasses" (ket, forensic team mates)

That description, deserves to be justified, based on field observations, and also justified based on their character and preferences in a pungent aroma.

So based on its easy-to-know nature, namely liking something bad, it is labeled as a dirty animal and a nuisance to human life, often labeled by humans as insects that carry bacteria or even viruses. In this meeting, I will try to give special knowledge about them to all of us, to be able to understand their presence in each location that you protect. Based on observations in the field, it can be said that flies like several things and become their characteristics in everyday life.

๐Ÿชฐ Foul smell, can invite the presence of flies

Scent, is something that comes from an object, smell can identify objects that are not visible, so never underestimate an aroma, if traced in outline it turns out that aromas have trillions of scents, this can be seen from the large number of objects, which are on planet earth this, so based on the number of objects then that's the number of scents themselves.

In essence, the aroma itself has two roles, namely a good smell and a bad smell, so that when the unpleasant odor spreads throughout the area carried by wind transport, in an environment dominated by flies, the fly will automatically be sniffed out by itself like someone who being hypnotized, while the fly-detecting antenna will follow where the scent is coming from. So at that time, the olfactory apparatus immediately picks up where there is a bad smell signal. Catching the smell is immediately caught by the signal and the function of detecting the body part of the fly, so that it is easily received by them, when the odor spreads within the object itself.

If a bad smell is detected then what about a good smell, and how strong is the catch?

Basically the smell has a signal strength, and resistance to the contents of the object itself, in general the strength of the stench itself is stronger and lasts longer than an object, while the fragrant smell is also often inhaled by flies, pure odors (scented properties) are rarely liked by flies. Although there are so few, that it is rare to approach them. However, odors mixed with food, derived from the process of human hands or mixtures made into food are also liked by flies, but the percentage is different.

If mapped, it will look like in the table below.

Ordinal Object Scent power Effect for flies
1Human carcass70 %Really like (A+)
2Animal carcasses have blood69,5 %Very Liked (A)
3The carcass of an animal that has no flesh, but has a rotting liquid5 %indifferent (D)
4The filth of every creature and the foul liquid, on the living creatures50 %Like (B+)
5Fragrant aroma, in every human food45 %Liked, if no more appropriate object (B)

The range of values โ€‹โ€‹or the results of the calculations above are temporary findings in an observation result, which have been concluded by the local observation team colleagues, and will later be redeveloped with the central research team.

When looking at the calculation results, the question arises, why the number does not reach 100%, this is given a reason that, although each scent has a long strength of aroma and aroma resistance itself, it is also helped by wind transportation which often carries the aroma in all directions. So the wind also has a role in conveying an aroma to the signals contained in the fly's body.

The stronger the transport of scent carried by the wind, the clearer the signal received, making it clear that, visits are very much visible, and sometimes even spawn within the carcass object itself, so the team monitored a definite acceleration in detecting a corpse.

If there is no wind to carry it, will the fly be able to detect it?

In this case it is very easy to answer, especially if you have understood the description above, this is monitored by the fly's body signals, based on the strength and resistance of the scent itself, if the human carcass has a scent strength of about 70% then, the distance between the carcass and the point of presence of the fly can be received by flies within about 100 meters or even more, if normal humans can sniff and receive scent signals within 10 meters without wind. So the fly can receive the signal about 3 times the distance of human reception.

Why do flies always prefer bad smells to certain scents?

The question is answered by looking at its own character, like other animals, that every animal in its life has two goals, namely eating and giving birth, these two points become the character of every animal. Basically every animal has its own and special motto, namely "live to eat" not "eat to live" so that when it lives to eat, then each will continue to seek and eat whatever the conclusion is that food is food. Flies always choose carrion or other bad objects, because they have a very strong odor for signal reception. If we say a fly eats rotten food or liquid, of course it does not arrive at flavorful food, well that explanation is a reference or assumption that flies will eat anything, as long as there is good liquid or other liquid.

(Surely you understand it very well)

***How to prevent his presence? ***

Although there are many ways to anticipate the presence of flies, in every protected object of course the object is basically eliminating the scent that can attract the attention of flies, but or basically these people anticipate odors that reach the fly's reception signal. So what must be done is how to anticipate the passing of the smell, so as not to be caught by the flies themselves.

For example, if someone provides a candle near the food to be protected, and then you see the fly only around the object, not in the center of the food point, this tells us that the fly is basically just sniffing the smoke and signaling heat, from the burning temperature of the candle. Instinctively a fly, it does not like the smell of smoke and hot air from burning candles, so the smell of food has been masked by objects that anticipate food.

Conclusion

Based on the results of temporary observations made by the team, I happened to be part of the team myself. It was concluded that, to prevent the presence of nuisance flies, the first thing you do is, protect the smell of the object to be protected, the method is very easy, by putting some other scents, which flies don't like, as:

  1. The heat from the smoke, whether it's from a candle or something
  2. Dispel the scent and body resistance of flies with artificial wind, either from a fan or otherwise
  3. Or block the smell of the object being protected with other things, including the smell of plants that flies don't like, and so on.

Sorry if the physical evidence from observations, such as photos of activities and others who are taking action, is not uploaded here, this is because the photo is considered to have a low rating and is not worthy of being a photography, and there is no permission from teammates, because of this observation, is still in a later stage.

What about your feedback, does anyone have anything to add, if so please comment in the box provided. Thankyou so much...
