HOME REPAIRS | WATER FILTER REPLACEMENT [ENG/ESP]

Today I dedicated myself to making a repair 🛠️ here at home 🏠, it was about the water filter 💧, I imagine that due to the amount of time it has been in operation it began to crack due to the water pressure and that is causing that the water seeps through those cracks 😬; I had to replace it with a new one 👨🏼‍🔧.

El día de hoy me dediqué a realizar una reparación 🛠️ aqui en la casa 🏠, se trataba de el filtro del agua 💧, me imagino que por la cantidad de tiempo que tiene en funcionamiento comenzó a agrietarse por la presión del agua y eso esta ocasionando que se filtre el agua por esas grietas 😬; tuve que reemplazarlo por uno nuevo 👨🏼‍🔧.

The filter has been in this condition for several months, at the base where it connects to the pipe it has a crack through which the water escapes when the stopcock is turned, a couple of weeks ago the crack worsened and now it escapes much more water, my brother the "engineer" wrapped the entire base of the filter with black tape and tied a plastic bag to it 🤣🤣🤣 (he's literally a mechatronics engineer and that was the best thing he could come up with 😅 I love him a lot but it happened 🤣 🤣🤣).

El filtro lleva varios meses en esa condición, en la base donde se conecta con la tubería tiene una grieta por donde se escapa el agua cuando se gira la llave de paso, hace un par de semanas atrás empeoró la grieta y ahora se escapa mucha más agua, mi hermano el "ingeniero" envolvió toda la base del filtro con cinta negra y le amarró una bolsa plástica 🤣🤣🤣 (literalmente es ingeniero en mecatrónica y eso fue lo mejor que se le ocurrió 😅 yo lo quiero mucho pero se paso 🤣🤣🤣).

Between the three of us (my sister, my brother and I) we put together a lot of money 💰 and bought a new water filter, something cheap to solve the matter quickly; Today, as I was free from university, I dedicated myself to doing this job and I have come to share a little of the process I did to replace the water filter.

Entre los tres (mi hermana, mi hermano y yo) juntamos una cantidad de dinero 💰 y compramos un filtro de agua nuevo, algo económico para resolver el asunto rápido; hoy como estaba libre de la universidad me dediqué a realizar este trabajo y he venido a compartir un poco del proceso que realice para reemplazar el filtro de agua.

The first thing I did was disassemble the damaged filter, the entire pipe is very rusty, I had to remove the filter along with the pipe and stopcock, because when I tried to unscrew the connections they began to snap 🙃.

Lo primero que hice fue desmontar el filtro dañado, toda la tubería esta muy oxidado, tuve que sacar el filtro junto con la tubería y llave de paso, porque cuando intenté desenroscar las conexiones se comenzaron a roper 🙃.

To change the pipe I found here among all the paraphernalia of the house, two pieces of 1/2-inch PVC pipe, I just had to cut them to the measurements I needed them and then thread them on each end 👨🏼‍🔧.

Para cambiar la tubería encontré aqui entre toda la parafernalia de la casa, dos pedazos de tubos de pvc de 1/2 pulgada, solo tenía que cortarlos a las medidas que los necesitaba y luego hacerle la rosca en cada extremo 👨🏼‍🔧.

I cut the tubes with a hacksaw and used a tool 🛠️ called THREADING TARRAJA that is used to thread clean water pipes.

Corte los tubos con una segueta y utilicé una herramienta 🛠️ que llama TARRAJA DE ROSCAR que sirve para hacerle la rosca a las tuberías de aguas limpias.

After cutting and threading the ends of the tubes, I set about making the tube connections; disconnect the old pipes and assemble the new ones 🦾.

Después de cortar y hacerle la rosca a los extremos de los tubos, me dispuse a realizar las conexiones de los tubos; desconecte las tuberías anteriores y ensamble las nuevas 🦾.

When the stopcock that came in the box with the filter was connected, I pressed it very hard and it burst; cheap is expensive 😅 I had to buy a new stopcock 💸.

Cuando estaba conectado la llave de paso que vino en la caja con el filtro, la apreté muy fuerte y se reventó; lo barato sale caro 😅 tuve que comprar una llave de paso nueva 💸.

I managed to connect the filter successfully, it worked perfectly 🤔 but then I started to detail the walls that have very deteriorated paint and that whole scene that I was seeing of the filter there seemed horrible to me, like tenths here in Venezuela it looked like a "MAMARRACHADA"; I'm not going to paint the walls yet, but I did decide to change the place of the filter to make it look a little more decent 😅.

Logré conectar el filtro exitosamente, funcionaba a la perfección 🤔 pero luego me puse a detallar las paredes que tienen la pintura muy deteriorada y toda esa escena que estaba viendo del filtro allí me parecía horrible, como décimos aquí en Venezuela se veía como una "MAMARRACHADA"; todavía no voy a pintar las paredes, pero si decidí cambiar el lugar del filtro para que se vea un poco mas decente 😅.

I disassembled the filter again and also disconnected the faucet from the sink, to move it from place, since I decided to place the filter next to that faucet. When I moved the cabinet where the sink is, I could appreciate the deterioration of that wall due to the filtration that there is, (another headache that adds to the list 🙃) but I'll take care of that later, for now, disconnect the pipes to make them shorter to adapt the filter to the side of the faucet.

Volví a desmontar el filtro y también desconecte el grifo del lavado, para moverlo de lugar, ya que decidí colocar el filtro junto a esa grifo. Cuando moví el mueble donde esta el lavado, pude apreciar el deterioro que tiene esa pared por la filtración que hay, (otro dolor de cabeza que se suma a la lista 🙃) pero de eso me encargo luego, por ahora, desconecte las tuberías para hacerlas mas cortas para adaptar el filtro al lado del grifo.

Move the sink faucet 🚿 so that the filter is on the side of the flat part of the sink and you can put the pitcher there to fill with filtered water.

Cambie de lugar el grifo 🚿 del lavado para que el filtro quede del lado de la parte plana del fregadero y poder posar la jarra allí para que se llene de agua filtrada.

Then make all the necessary connections to be able to adapt the water filter and also connect the hose that supplies the faucet 🚿 in the new position where you move it.

Luego realice todas las conexiones necesarias para poder adaptar el filtro de agua y tambien conectar la manguera que suministra el grifo 🚿 en la nueva posición donde lo desplace.

And this is how the water filter finally turned out 😁 it took me a few hours of work, but I was satisfied with the result, in my 28 years of life the filter had always been in the same place; the only constant is change, that's why I feel good about breaking patterns in my home 💪🏼😌. Y así fue como quedo finalmente el filtro de agua 😁 me llevo unas cuantas horas de trabajo, pero quede satisfecho con el resultado, en mis 28 años de vida el filtro siempre había estado en el mismo lugar; la única constante es el cambio, por eso me siento bien de estar rompiendo patrones en mí hogar 💪🏼😌.
