Ciao dear Building-enthusiastic friends!

Today I acted on an intuition and inspiration, to change one of the rooms at the back of my art studio - from a materials and packaging storage space, into a guest bedroom: I'm excited to be opening up my Italian medieval quarter Arthouse to retreats offered in Gift.

This room used to have a double bed platform, which I used as my room for a long time, when I was running artist residencies through Vacation With An Artist... Then I sawed the platform in half and used it to store cardboard boxes for shipping paintings. Now, I'm sawing the platform supports much lower, and creating a single bed with lovely cosy seating to one side...

I hoped it'd be easier to saw the posts! But in the end, horizontal sawing is too hard with my not-so-new sawblade 😛

So it had to be completely mostly deconstructed, so I could actually saw it!

Also, the back wall is in under the ground and goes directly into the bedrock of the hillside - so it needs to breathe more than I was letting it in recent years! - thus I had to scrape off some areas and will need to replaster it then paint it with limewash again 😍

I'm having a well-earned rest: it was tiring and dusty work, especially sawing at an angle, and leveraging down the ridiculously heavy MDF board which will be reused as the bedbase. The new bed level will be at 75 cm, and I'll figure out the best way of reconstructing it, when my energy is fresh again in the morning 🔥
Excited to share more when it's finished!
Clare.
