With the wind being so strong lately, our door keeps closing when we want it to stay open. So, I thought, why not make a doorstopper?
I have a soft spot for mushrooms, so I decided to craft a little toadstool. It was such a fun and exciting project! I did run into a few hiccups along the way since I was rushing and had a lot on my mind, but I managed to pull it off.
The one I made is on the smaller side, but you can easily make it bigger by adjusting the stitches.
Heres how:
Materials:
Red, white, and 4 mm hooks
Stuffing: Polyester fiberfill
Pebbles or sand: For weighting the base
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Abbreviations:
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
inc: increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
dec: decrease (single crochet two stitches together)
sl st: slip stitch
st(s): stitch(es)
Mushroom Stem 🍄
Magic ring, 6 sc into ring. (6 sts)
Round 1: Inc in each stitch around. (12 sts)
Round 2: Sc, inc repeat around. (18 sts)
Round 3: 2 sc, inc repeat around. (24 sts)
Rounds 4-15: Sc around. (24 sts per round)
I use markers so I can keep track of how many rounds I made.
Round 16: 2 sc, dec repeat around. (18 sts)
A little tip: swapping the crochet needle to a smaller size creates some curvature without decreasing the stitches and creating a natural look.
Before closing the bottom of the stem, fill it with pebbles or sand for weight, and then stuff the remainder with fiberfill.
Round 17: Sc, dec repeat around. (12 sts)
Round 18: Dec around. (6 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Mushroom Cap🍄
Magic ring, 6 sc into ring. (6 sts)
Round 1: Inc in each stitch around. (12 sts)
Round 2: Sc, inc repeat around. (18 sts)
Round 3: 2 sc, inc repeat around. (24 sts)
Round 4: 3 sc, inc repeat around. (30 sts)
Round 5: 4 sc, inc repeat around. (36 sts)
Round 6: 5 sc, inc repeat around. (42 sts)
Round 7: 6 sc, inc repeat around. (48 sts)
Rounds 8-12: Sc around. (48 sts per round)
Round 13: 6 sc, dec repeat around. (42 sts)
Round 14: 5 sc, dec repeat around. (36 sts)
Round 15: 4 sc, dec repeat around. (30 sts)
Round 16: 3 sc, dec repeat around. (24 sts)
Round 17: 2 sc, dec repeat around. (18 sts)
Stuff the cap with fiberfill before closing it completely.
Round 18: Sc, dec repeat around. (12 sts)
Round 19: Dec around. (6 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew the cap onto the top of the stem.
Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.
To make the white spot: magic ring, 6 sc, fasten off
and sew or glue them onto the mushroom cap to mimic a classic toadstool look.
Done! and I am pleased with it. :)
I placed it against the door to keep it open.
Or simply as a decorative item. I like the weight of it; it keeps it steady.

It is a baby Amanita muscaria mushroom that has not opened its cap completely.
My kitty is admiring it.
