Life, like a yarn or cord, is shaped by the time and effort we invest in it. Every twist, knot, or loop reflects our choices, struggles, and moments of care. With patience and creativity, even the simplest thread can become something intricate and meaningful. How you weave it is entirely in your hands, and the journey itself adds to the beauty of the outcome.
This simple reflection about life came to me while I was weaving last night, thinking about how today is my birthday.
I wasn’t planning on doing anything yesterday until I found this piece of a branch lying on the floor, almost as if it was meant for something. I picked it up, and all I could imagine was a hanging basket. It seemed destined for a purpose.
Last night, I played with the cords to create something special—a macramé wall basket with multiple uses. I was just winging it.
I used a leftover 5mm macrame cord.
I first cut 14 pieces of 300 cm cord and 16 pieces of 120 cm.
I only used the brown.
I started by hanging the branch on the wall.
I folded the cords and attached the 14 cords to the branch using a Lark's Head Knot. You’ll have seven groups of 4 cords (28 in total).
I made 6 square knots.
I flipped them to make a berry knot using a 10 mm crochet hook.
Berry knots
I tied the two end cords from each end using square knots.
Then, I made an alternate square knot. And more square knots to build a foundation for more knots.
Using Lark's head knots, I attached the remaining 16 cords on the previous cord I tied up together. Four groups of 2 cords on each side (you'll have 32 cords hanging down all in all)
Then, I made berry knots on each group.
Followed by alternating square knots to finish up a net.
Knots all around to create the basket.
Finished the ends with gathering knots.
Cut the excess!
I frayed the ends and braided them roughly for a style.
I twisted a couple of extra cords and made a tassel for each end of the branch.
Done! It turned out well.
It is sturdy, and I like how it looks.
The basket is deep enough for many things you want to organize.
For fruits.

Even my kitty loves to be in it!
He was purring and playing while inside this basket!
all in all, I was pleased I made this, as it really made my day.
The macramé basket now hangs proudly on my wall, adding a touch of warmth to my home.
Have a wonderful day, everyone!
