needleworkmonday WiP Challenge | The Big Reveal: It's all gone Pete Tong! 😱 Comment token winners inside

Spring flowers from earlier in the year. I'm thinking about these colours for a cardigan. I never realised that cardigans were reputedly named after the Earl of Cardigan, after the open-fronted, buttoned, knitted waistcoats or vests worn by army officers.

It started so well - lovely pattern, beautiful yarn, perfect swatch. But I was over adventurous with a new technique - look what happened:

Left: All looks well, doesn't it? Although you can see some problems with tension even in a carefully chosen "good bit". It did improve towards the top. Top right:You can see the struggles with tension on the wrong side. Bottom right:using the magic loop method was a major problem with multi-colour work.

There were several problems: I was trying to learn too many new skills at the same time - using two yarns, managing tension and yarn dominance (the latter never got a look in, I have no idea which yarn was on the bottom and which was on the top). Add to this using circular needles and the magic loop method, especially with a very inflexible cable joining the needles, and last, but not least, rushing to meet a deadline!

I abandoned the unrealistic expectation that I was going to have a finished item to reveal on Needlework Monday, and ordered myself a set of double-pointed needles. I need to do some more practice to get the skills under my belt, and then I will have another go at making these beautiful socks - yes that was the mystery item!

I loved the colours, I would also like to see them in soft pinks and lilacs.
