Hello Hive
Yesterday I made a blog of the dress I have sewn for a friend of mine who had trusted my sewing skills nor beloved that I will get better with sewing. Well I eventually convinced her that it is only a matter of time and that we can achieve huge dreams if we keep practicing.
Here she is slaying in her A-line dress along side the dress I made for my sister today. She kept insisting that her hair and face was too rough and didn't want to snap pictures.
That is the slaying and laughter moments.
I am certain that she is pleased with the outcome of her dress and then that I did save her some budgets, making this for only $4.
Today I made the second part of the dress for my sister, as they would be attending the same wedding program together, and that is the traditional fabric uniform for the party.
For my sister dress, I only spent $1.5 to get the linings, zippers, and thread needed. How cheap can you make a custom outfit?
I started with the usual cutting of fabrics with her measurements and adding necessary stays to give it a fitting.
Then I moved to cut the lower part of the outfit. My sister wanted a skirt and blouse, but she has only 3 yards of fabric, and I can only manage this to make a dress instead.
Then it was time to stitch, stitch, stitch. I spend about half a day making this. My sewing isn't fast yet, but the more you sew and gather experience, the easier and faster work gets.
Sewing simple straight sleeves completes my work.
It was then time for fitting and everyone liked their clothes.
My sister has never bothered me with complicated designs knowing how busy I can be. She will be like I should just make her anything that will be simple, fitted and within budget.
I spent only $1.5 to make her outfits purchasing only the needed materials, no excess cash for any form of luxury but still the dress looks nice on her.
Spending almost 12hrs on this was my major concern, I learnt that people get paid per hour for the services they rendered and a friend told me yesterday that making a dress like this will get me nothing less than $200 or Euro as the currency maybe but here I am charging a few dollars for almost 24hrs of sewing.
No wonder alot of my country people are relocating abroad, willing to go and sell their skills over there for what it is worth. Regardless of the tax system, different standard of living and all you can still make decent income sewing.
Most times I even laugh at myself when I sew completely free for people, it's only a matter of time. Hopefully when my business gets started fully I won't be charging merger sum as more capital will be needed for running our business.
How much will you charge to make an outfit like this, asking my fellow Seamstress here
