How many unfinished projects do you have? I have a few but this one I haven't worked on in a few years - though I do endeavor to finish it... maybe :D
It's not how I wanted it to turn out , but it's soooo close to being done. I love the Pūriri moth...
I am fascinated by the detailed patterns of moth & butterfly wings. Zoomed in they're incredibly intricate. It's not often you get to see a Pūriri moth, they only live for 48 hours as a moth.
We are lucky to have quite a large Pūriri tree at the back of our property & in 30 years I've only seen one or two - most of the time dead. Here's one we found a few years back.
It was nice to pay homage through art to a moth not widely known or seen. My hope is to bring awareness to creatures such as the Pūriri moth.

And on the other side of beauty is the artist's depiction of my brain.
Something else I love about the Pūriri tree - Wood pigeons absolutely LOVE the berries produced by the tree. If you don't know what a wood pigeon is, it's New Zealand's GIANT answer to a pigeon. Also known as the Kererū
AKA - That bird that gets so drunk off fermented berries that it falls out of trees. Anyway, it's an important species for keeping our native trees alive - once they wake up from their night on the town they are great at seed dispersal.

Close up.
So yeah, just like most of the world many of our species are at risk. Our new government doesn't care too much for the environment so I feel it's important to keep conversation alive, bring awareness & a deeper connection to protect our taonga (gifts)
