Hello everyone, also my creative needle workers, greetings to you all and welcome to my blog
Today, I will sharing with you the process of how I made this pretty looking dress,
So last week Sunday, a woman in church approached me and asked if I could make a dress for a fellow sister in church as a present for her upcoming birthday, she wanted it to be a surprise, how I love surprises, she showed me the style she wanted for her and gave me the fabric to work with, luckily for us, I already had the birthday woman's measurements as she is my regular client.
Without further ado, let me take you through the process of how I made this simple yet elegant looking dress.
Materials/tools used
Ankara fabric
Sequin lace fabric
Cotton lining
Satin fabric
Bias strip
Zipper
Tools used are sewing machine, scissors and chalk and taperule.
Starting, I drafted my pattern, which is in form of an A-line dress, I used a bias cut for the front and a straight cut for the back
I also cut the lining fabric same way
I chalked round the neckline of the front pattern, where I will be placing the sequin fabric, next I cut out the shape on the sequin lace along with the satin fabric,
placing the satin beneath the lace, and sewed it round the marked line.
Next, I cut a long 6" strip of the ankara, folded and pleated it around the edge of the sequin lace, next, I finished it up with the bias strip.
I turned the front and back pattern with the cotton lining and joined both at the shoulder, also attached the zipper at the back
Next I cut out the pocket pattern, I already ran out of fabric at this point, so I used the lining fabric combined with ankara at the edge.
For the sleeves
I cut out a basic sleeve pattern and 3 flares using the the bicep and round sleeve measurements as the radius,
Joined all together,
And attached it to the gown.
The final look,
When I had it delivered to the owner, she was so surprised and happy and the satisfying smile and laughter I got from her made my day😊😀.
