CROCHET LOVELY MEN'S TIE

Hello everyone! Welcome to another beautiful Monday in the needlework community. About a week ago, a friend contacted me and asked if I could make a crochet tie for him and his club members. He said he wanted something unique and different from what they are used to over the years. I was more than happy to grant their request, so he asked me to make a sample tie so he can show the others and get their opinion.

Originally what I had in mind was to create a plain tie and use a different colour to inscribe their club initials on the tie using the tapestry method since I am not so good with embroidery. I was initially going to use Stitch fiddle to create the graphgan but it wasn’t working out so I decided to do it myself.

I finished creating the graphgan, it took a while because I kept getting the B wrong. Eventually, I just decided to go with the flow. So, I started working on the piece and when it got to the graphgan aspect, I was not feeling the design anymore. It felt like it was too plain and because the project is small and has few stitches it just wasn’t coming out right. I abandoned that and started working on another pattern.

For this one I did not do anything tapestry, all I did was alternate between colours. Making the tie was super easy after I figured out what I wanted to do. I started with making 2 chains, then 2 half double crochets in the first chain I made.

For the next 4 rows, I did 1 increase on each of the 2 sides. On the 6th row, I did a regular half double crochet in each stitch while alternating the colours and that was the pattern until I had about 16.5 inches in length.

Then I started the decrease, for this I had to make the decrease a bit subtle, so I did 1 decrease every 8 rows until I had only 6 stitches left. Then I continued with regular half double crochets. I was aiming for 55 - 58 inches in total but I ended up getting 46 inches before one of the yarns finished. Since it is only just a sample and this will not be the actual colour they want. I decided to just stop there.

Here’s the final look of the tie. I am hoping he will like it as much as I do. What are your thoughts?
