| The nature is really beautiful there and in some places one feels like on another planet. The other side of the coin is that Chile is a major importer of second-hand and fast-fashion clothing that has not been sold in the US and Europe. According to the Aljazeera news portal, up to 59 tons of such clothing are imported to Chile every year, but in reality only about 20 tons reach stores in South America. The rest ends up in uncontrolled landfills in the Atacama Desert, where tens of tons of discarded clothes are being dumped. | Príroda je tam naozaj prekrásna a človek sa miestami cíti, ako by bol na inej planéte. Druhou stranou mince je, že Čile je významným dovozcom second-hand a fast-fashion oblečenia, ktoré sa nepredalo v USA a Európe. Ročne sa podľa spravodajského portálu Aljazeera do Čile dovezie až 59 ton takéhoto oblečenia, reálne sa však do obchodov v Južnej Amerike dostance iba približne 20 ton. Zvyšok končí na nekontrolovaných skládkach v púšti Atacama, kde sa váľajú desiatky ton vyhodeného oblečenia. |

| Of course, such landfills represent a huge environmental burden, and the one in the Atacama Desert is certainly not the only one in the world. So we should probably reconsider how much clothes we really need to produce and whether we really need to buy a new t-shirt or another piece of clothing every month. | Takéto skládky samozrejme predstavujú obrovskú ekologickú záťaž a tá v púšti Atacama určite nie je jedinou na svete. Zrejme by sme sa preto mali zamyslieť koľko oblečenia naozaj potrebujeme vyrábať a či si naozaj potrebujeme každý mesiac kúpiť nové tričko, alebo iný kus oblečenia. |
