"Pain" is a reason to protect animals. Why? They feel pain, suffering, these are things that we feel ourselves, so we know it's not cool and we wish they don't go through that either. So we fight for your rights.

Plants don't feel pain. They are still shredded, mown and mistreated in various ways before they reach the state where they can be considered "dead". While still alive, they go through things that not even cows in slaughterhouses imagine possible. But they don't feel pain, so... Is that okay?

Fish are said to feel no pain either, but they do have sensors that detect damaging conditions such as intense temperatures and pressures, as well as harmful chemicals. They struggle when these things are detected. The difference between them and plants would only be the ability to demonstrate reaction to the damage that the environment causes them.

But what is pain, if not a biological reaction among several that we have as a means of defense when we feel mentally attacked and when our body feels physically damaged? Both this and other defense methods are part of the self-preservation instinct that all living beings have. Everything that is alive wants to go on living.

Unethical overproduction of food is disrespectful. Whether animals or plants, we must always avoid morally contradictory practices. It is not right to assume that one way of life is more important than another outside the individual level, because then it isn't about favoritism anymore, but ignorance and arrogance.

Plantas não sentem dor. Elas ainda são picotadas, ceifadas e destratadas de diversas formas antes que cheguem ao estado em que podem ser consideradas "mortas". Ainda em vida, passam por coisas que nem vacas em matadouros imaginam ser possíveis. Mas não sentem dor, então... Tudo bem?

Dizem que peixes também não sentem dor, mas eles têm sensores que detectam condições de dano, como temperaturas e pressões intensas, além de químicos nocivos. Eles se debatem quando essas coisas são detectadas. A diferença entre eles e plantas seria somente a capacidade de demonstrar reação aos danos que o ambiente causa a eles.

Mas o que é a dor, senão uma reação biológica entre várias que temos como meio de defesa quando nos sentimos atacados mentalmente e quando nosso corpo se sente danificado fisicamente? Tanto este quanto outros métodos de defesa são parte do instinto de auto-preservação que todos os seres vivos têm. Tudo que é vivo quer continuar vivendo.

A produção excessiva anti-ética de alimentos é desrespeitosa. Sejam animais ou plantas, devemos sempre evitar práticas moralmente contraditórias. Não é certo pressupôr que uma forma de vida é mais importante do que outra fora do nível individual, pois passa a não se tratar de favoritismo, e sim de ignorância e arrogância.
