I should be sleeping. It's past 1 a.m and I have a flight to catch tomorrow, ( well actually it's today bow) with my girls. A flight that will see me leave Ireland and return to Spain. Last night, I didn't sleep so well. Which is not unusual for me, when it comes close for me to fly. I woke up at 3 a.m, my head buzzzing with the things I needed to do. As well as my general dislike of airports. Flying with children, always means I have to organise for 4, I have to make sure they have packed everything they came with, that they manage to fit everything into their bags. Today I had to pay for an extra bag, as my girls have received gifts from my mother and sister.
We fly on Halloween as well, something my girls we not so happy about. I prefer to celebrate Samhain with my girls, but as they have gotten older it has become harder as outside influences creep in. In the end, it is there choice. We still celebrate Samhain, but they also celebrate Halloween. Luckily for my girls, my mother and sister, organised a visit to a Spooktacular event for them to attend, whilst we were here. There was some games, a hall of terror and some rather impressive decor, to get them in the festive mood.
My youngest was the most impressed. It's so important to me, that my girls celebrate life, that the celebrate the changing of the seasons. That they recognise, how important it is to remain connected to the natural cycles in nature. That they look to nature for guidance. To witness the lessons that come with each season. how when the trees shed their leaves, so too, should we begin to let go, to let go of what no longer serves us. That we should focus our energy on travelling within, coonecting with our roots. Nurture our needs, wrap ourselves up, dream, manifest, embrace the dark that awaits us, as winter approaches.
Samhain, is a time to connect with our ancestors, honour them and welcome their teachings. It is a time to celebrate how their lives have enriched ours, to live from a place of gratitude. Yes we can have our fun and games. Carve pumpkins ( which we did yesterday), dress up. But it is so important to remember the origin, our origins. To acknowledge how so much off our history, was taken from us, twisted and contorted. Where the healers, were called witches and demonized, especially the women.
Let them dress up as witches, but make sure they know the truth. That they know our herstory. Then they can decide how they wish to celebrate. I was so adamant, that my girls would only Samhain, but who am I to dictate to them. I can share my knowledge, but they must carve their own path.
So tomorrow as I prepare to leave Ireland, I will celebrate my Sister. I will remember my Father, my grandmother and all those who came before me. Who paved the way for me and my girls, so that I can not walk earthside.
All the photos used in this post where taken by me at the spooktacular event, except the pumpkins, which we carved last night.
