Humans are animals but real animals like dogs and cats are far loyal and caring in comparison to humans. Humans have evolved so much that they have learned to bite with words but dogs,cats don't have ability to utter words that's why they cannot harm our heart with words.
Secondly, we all are product of our surroundings. Our reactions come from whatever surrounding is acting and then we react according to act that is coming towards us. In this act and react process, we learn.
There is role of imitation in learning and evolving process.
