Statue of Liberty

Did you know that the Statue of Liberty was originally a shiny copper color when it was first unveiled? Over time, the copper exterior oxidized, giving it the green patina we see today. The statue was a gift from France, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two nations and celebrating America’s centennial of independence in 1876.

Designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and with its iron framework engineered by Gustave Eiffel, the statue stands proudly on Liberty Island in #NewYork Harbor. Lady #Liberty holds a torch in her right hand, representing enlightenment, and a tablet inscribed with the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence in her left. 📸 @dantvusa, @davethepreacher #architectanddesign.
