Amina walked home wondering what life would be like without financial struggles, doing what she loved most - photography. She dreamed of being a renowned photographer, booked by celebrities for all-expense paid trips across the country. She knew she had the skill but no one else saw her talent yet.
She arrived home to her mum Aishat yelling about unpaid bills. Ever since Aishat's accident that left her unable to walk, she had grown bitter, taking her frustrations out on Amina. Amina felt sorry for her but was tired of the constant criticism. She walked to her room as Aishat continued her tirade.
Amina was done trying to please her unappeasable mum but still dreamed of better lives for them both. As she lay in bed, she decided to quit her side job at the club where the owner repeatedly asked her to meet privately. She realized she wasn't suited for most jobs she'd taken just to pay bills.
The next day Amina attended her friend Temi's birthday party. Hoping to network with Temi's wealthy connections, she brought her camera gear. She started photographing guests when she spotted renowned photographer Ty Bello. Stunned, she showed Ty her work. "You're good!" Ty said.
Amina was inspired hearing Ty's career journey. Ty mentioned an upcoming New York event with influential people that could kickstart Amina’s career. Amina pondered the opportunity for days. She thought of her mum but knew she'd be fine with their aunt's help. Ultimately Amina decided not to let her situation stop her from chasing this dream. She increased her work to save up for the ticket, determined not to remain a victim of circumstances.
Months passed and Amina was at the NYFW, as soon as she mounted the red carpet, she knew her life was about to change.
