The Journey Of Love

What do you think about love?

It is something great and powerful.

Love is a strong cord that can never be broken; it bonds people together through the channel of relationship.

It is an attraction towards someone or something. Love is so powerful and can be fun, heartbreaking most times. It can also be tempting, frustrating, and many other feeling attached to it.

Love can be fun when the people involved are on the same level of interest. There will be problems if love is one-sided.

Love requires a lot of sacrifice. Without sacrifice and trust, there would be no love.

The journey of love between Bukky and Dennis

Bukky, a pretty girl whose looks were so alluring that every guy always wanted to be around her joined us in school while we were preparing to sit for our WAEC (West African Examination Council).

She was in science class and along the line, she fell in love with Dennis, a commercial student.

The first day I spoke with Bukky, I realized that she was not only full of beauty, but also good in character. I met Bukky for the first time and I felt like I'd known her for a long period. Bukky was so loving and fun to be with.

I can't tell much about the genesis of her relationship with Dennis but I know their relationship started during High School days.

Bukky and Dennis would come to school together everyday and go home together holding their hands. It was something I always admired.

During break time, Dennis would always be in Bukky's class, assisting her with her notes.
Both Dennis and Bukky were the gist of the school then.

"high school love is like a child's play"
"We have less than one month to leave the high school."
"We will see if their love will not crash," Vero said.

Our WAEC Examination was fast approaching and we were all busy, studying and going for tutorials.

A week before our examinations, I met Bukky at the cafeteria alone. It was unusual for her to be without Dennis. So, I went closer to her and asked,

"Where is Dennis?"

That was my first time having a conversation with Bukky.
She couldn't back herself. As she wanted to speak, tears started rolling down her eyes and I quickly moved closer to her in order not to create a scene, She left her food and we both went to the back of the cafeteria under a mango tree to discuss the reasons for her tears.

Bukky started to explain how Dennis had been cheating on her with Vero.
Immediately I heard that, I opened my mouth wide and saliva was about to drop when I remembered my mouth was wide open.
Then I said to myself;

No wonder she was saying she would see how the relationship crashed.

Bukky said the most painful part was that, she went to Dennis's house and met Vero with Dennis in the room having sex. When Dennis saw her, he shouted at her. He told her that since she couldn't allow him to have sex with her, he had decided to go with Vero who was available for him to enjoy himself.

Bukky didn't believe Dennis could do such a thing to her.
The most irritating part was that, Dennis was proud and didn't feel remorse about his actions and how he was toying with someone's heart.
With all her explanation I asked her;

Are you sure Dennis is in love with you?
She said "Yes"
I told her "If he truly loves you with time he will come around"

Bukky cried!😭😭😭😭😭
I consoled her and told her not to allow that to disturb her WAEC examination.

Since then I have become Bukky's friend.
The examination has started, and Bukky stopped all worries about Dennis and focused on her examination
Bukky came out with distinction in her examination with an A1 parallel and everyone was surprised to see how she was able to succeed.

On the day of valedictory service. I sat down with Bukky, there was an empty seat beside her. Dennis came and sat beside her. immediately Bukky stood up and wanted to leave for another seat, Dennis held her down and started to beg her to forgive him. Bukky struggled with him to let go of her but Dennis held her firm. Bukky tried her best and free herself from Dennis and went home. She couldn't wait till the end of the party.

Those days the means of communication was through letter writing, phone communication was not rampant then.
That was the last time I saw Bukky.

I went to the Idumota market during the Christmas festive period in the year 2012. I was in a shop trying to buy a gown for my daughter, I met a lady whose face looked familiar. I was trying to remember where I had seen the face before when she called my name Julian. I was dumbfounded.
My brain quickly did a flashback immediately the name sounded in my ear, there was a connection between my ear and brain and my mouth pronounced the result of the connection and shouted "BUKKY".
We rushed to each other's arms and we were in the same position for 5 minutes the only words that were coming out of our mouths were

"I missed you"

The last time we saw each other was in 2003(9yrs).
We were so happy to see each other again.

The shop is her shop and we begin to talk and discuss life and everything.
Suddenly, a car parked in front of her shop and she said ;

Oh, my husband is around,

I turned to look who the husband was,

Guess who?
Dennis.

I was surprised 😲😲😲😲 to see that their high school love still existed and proceeded to the level of marriage.

How their love gets to the level of marriage will be told in the next submission of the Dreemport challenge for October.

Thanks for reading.
