Greetings community! I welcome you to this post that I wanted to give a particular focus as a diary since I have several projects planned for the next few weeks. One of them is to answer the call of my dear @ninaeatshere to participate in the World Mappin community and I take these things very seriously to live up to the commitment and that is the reason for this post. I have dusted off my old Sony camera to take high quality photos of those places that I am going to start visiting. So without further ado let's begin!

Una de ellas es atender el llamado de mi estimada @ninaeatshere para participar en la comunidad de World Mappin y estas cosas me las tomo muy en serio para estar a la altura del compromiso y esa es la razón de este post. He desempolvado mi antigua cámara Sony para tomar fotos de gran calidad de aquellos sitios que voy a empezar a visitar. Asi que sin más comencemos!
This story begins with a post I uploaded yesterday where I sent some postcards from Cerro Ávila to a good friend Hiver who lives in Europe and although I liked some photos, others were blurry or blurred. That was the reason I looked for my Sony Cyber-Shot camera to take photos properly! I had not used this camera for 8 years and as a result of the pandemic and the political turbulence in my country (Venezuela), I have been virtually imprisoned in my neighborhood.
Esta historia comienza con un post que subí el día de ayer donde le enviaba unas postales del cerro Ávila a un buen amigo Hiver que vive en Europa y aunque algunas fotos me gustaron, otras quedaron movidas o borrosas esa fue la razón de buscar mi cámara Sony Cyber-Shot para tomar fotos como dios manda! Esta cámara tenía 8 años sin usarla y es que como consecuencia de la pandemia y la turbulencia política de mi país (Venezuela) he estado virtualmente preso en mi vecindario.

I was worried that the camera wouldn't turn on but it did, the thing was that my laptop had an old version of Linux and it didn't recognize it so I had to update it and finally it did. That's how I decided to try the camera in a photo shoot of my plants that I have a great affection for, well you couldn't expect less from a biologist 😅.
Me preocupaba que la cámara no encendiera pero si lo hizo, el detalle tuvo en que mi laptop tenía una antigua versión de linux y no lo reconoció por lo que tuve que actualizarla y finalmente lo hizo. Fue así como decidí probar la cámara en una sesión de fotos de mis plantas a las que les tengo un gran cariño, bueno no podían esperar menos de un biólogo 😅.
I first took photos of this beautiful orchid. I had previously shared a post about this species, but in its natural environment, getting it to flower in an apartment is a real challenge, since it is part of the epiphyte family. They do not have real roots, so they need to parasitize woody trunks. This is the reason why many ladies get upset with me when I tell them that they are parasitic, but as you can see, their flower is extremely beautiful.
Le tomé primeramente fotos a esta hermosa orquídea, anteriormente había compartido un post de esta especie pero en su entorno natural, lograr que florezca en un apartamento es un verdadero desafío ya que forma parte de la familia de las epífitas, no tienen raíces reales así que necesitan parasitar troncos leñosos. Esta es la razón por las que muchas señoras se molestan conmigo cuando les digo que son parásitas pero como pueden ver su flor es extremadamente hermosa.
It has not been easy to maintain the plants, this year the dry season has extended beyond the projected 6 months and my plants have suffered, with an average temperature of 33°C and long days of radiant sun has caused some of them to wither because they are very sensitive to long periods of drought.
No ha sido fácil mantener las plantas, este año la temporada de sequía se ha extendido más allá de los 6 meses proyectados y mis plantas lo han sufrido, con una temperatura promedio de 33°C y largos días de un sol radiante, ha hecho que algunas de ellas se hayan marchitado por ser muy sensible a largos periodos de sequía.
Fortunately, this September the rains have already arrived and the days are partly cloudy, which has lowered the temperature noticeably from 32-33°C to 28-30°C. However, those that have stoically endured this long period of drought have only been my Aloe Vera plants, and it is understandable that these plants have a MAC type metabolism or acid metabolism, meaning they are adapted to survive in highly saline and dry environments.
Afortunadamente este mes de septiembre ya han llegado las lluvias y los días son parcialmente nublados lo que ha bajado la temperatura notablemente de 32-33°C a 28-30°C. Sin embargo, las que han aguantado de manera estoica este largo período de sequía han sino mis plantas de Sábila y es entendible estas plantas tienen un metabolismo tipo MAC o metabolismo ácido es decir están adaptadas para sobrevivir en entornos altamente salinos y secos.
Finally, I share with you this beautiful photo of this common fern and some terrible news, friends. This is not my favorite type of fern. The one I love is one called Psilotum nodum or asparagus fern that grows in subtropical areas. It is not very striking like the one in the photo, but it is considered a living fossil and it turns out that my mother pulled it out thinking it was a weed! Anyway, all bad, friends.
Por último les comparto esta hermosa foto de este helecho común y una terrible noticia amigos, este no es mi tipo de helecho favorito, al que le tengo cariño es uno llamado Psilotum nodum o helecho espárrago que crece en zonas subtropicales no es muy llamativo como el de la foto, pero es uno considerado fósil viviente y resulta que mi madre los arrancó pensando que era maleza! En fin, todo mal amigos.
