LADIES OF HIVE CONTEST #113 : Saturday the 31st

Hello esteemed . The prompt for this week, "What do you plan to do on the 31st right at midnight?" Brings back lots of memories.

Movies have created this stereotype that the 31st night is the night where lovers meet to share a kiss under the starlight in order to make their love an everlasting one. I'm a lover of love but I see things as they should be. Irrespective of how many kisses people share under the starlight, if the relationship wasn't meant to last, it won't last. No hard feelings.

Two years ago, my 31st night was quite tragic. I was ill the day before but I shrugged it away like I always do. I thought if I walked around for a bit the malaria would reduce and eventually go. The night came and I was bedridden. As fireworks were going up in the skies to announce the new year, I was shedding tears on my bed. I had missed the year's walk. That was the year I vowed to take my health more seriously

On every 31st night for the past five years, my elder sister and I usually take a stroll around the neighborhood. By taking a stroll, we always entered places we've never been before. Although we've spent all our lives there, each year we keep discovering new places we haven't seen before. This stroll is always exciting because we are not the type to walk around our neighborhood. We could say we barely know our neighbors because our daily routine doesn't circle around the neighborhood.

Last year, I didn't want the incident of the previous year to occur so I took preventive measures. I got treated ahead of time and I was able to go for the yearly walk.

Last year we had company. A family friend joined us on the walk and like every other year, we discovered new places. Churches were open and bars were open too😅. Just imagine the contrast. While some people crossed over in church dancing and praising God, some people crossed over at drinking parlors partying all night long.

I got to realize that other years it was just my sister and I but last year was a bit fun due to the additional member who was a guy. We felt less terrified. Just imagine two young ladies walking alone on the streets on the night of 31st. We always trembled in fear but we were sure never to show it.

This year, I'd love to have the customary walk round the neighborhood and discover more intriguing places. I would also like our number to increase. The larger the number, the more fun it would be. I'd do my best to convince more people to join the stroll.

With love, wongi ✨
