Me gustó muchísimo la segunda pregunta de este concurso, porque desde pequeña mi sueño ha sido viajar, pero hay un sitio que deseo conocer como ningún otro. A continuación mi participación:
I really liked the second question of this quiz, because since I was little my dream has been to travel, but there is a place that I want to know like no other. Here is my participation:

If you were given a round trip airline ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you choose to go, and specifically, why?
El lugar que siempre he querido visitar es Francia, especialmente París. Ése ha sido mi sueño desde niña, y a medida que el tiempo ha ido transcurriendo ese deseo se ha fortalecido mucho más. Así que si me regalan un pasaje ida y vuelta y me dan la libertad de escoger un lugar, ésa sería mi elección.
The place I have always wanted to visit is France, especially Paris. That has been my dream since I was a child, and as time has passed, that desire has become much stronger. So if they give me a round trip ticket and give me the freedom to choose a place, that would be my choice.
Cuando era pequeña siempre estuve al cuidado de mi tía, la única hermana de mi madre. Mi familia materna es de origen francés, específicamente mi abuelo materno. La cultura de Francia se reflejó medianamente en mi hogar de muchas maneras; en las comidas, las frases y palabras usadas, la decoración, y algunas costumbres.
When I was little I was always in the care of my aunt, my mother's only sister. My maternal family is of French origin, specifically my maternal grandfather. The culture of France was moderately reflected in my home in many ways; in meals, the phrases and words used, the decoration, and some customs.
Al levantarme o al llegar a la casa, pasaba directo a la cocina y le decía:
--- ¡Hola tía, buenos días!
Y ella me respondía:
--- Bonjour, mademoiselle!
Si me pedía algún favor, al hacerlo me respondía:
--- Merci beaucoup!
Y así pasábamos todo el día escuchando las frases más comunes en francés, y a ella se le escuchaban muy bonitas. Su acento y la forma de colocar los labios al pronunciar, eran perfectos.
When I got up or when I got home, I would go straight to the kitchen and say:
--- Hello aunty, good morning!
And she answered me:
--- Bonjour, mademoiselle!
If she asked me for a favor, when she did, she would reply:
--- Thank you beaucoup!
And so we spent the whole day listening to the most common phrases in French, and they sounded very nice to her. Her accent and the way she placed her lips when pronouncing were perfect.
Era muy común escuchar a mi tía hablar en francés, o respondernos en ese idioma, de donde me quedaron algunos recuerdos ya que estudié el francés sólo mientras fui adolescente, y lo abandoné al poco tiempo, unos años antes de casarme. Ya no tuve más la influencia de mi tía en la práctica del idioma y como muchas otras cosas, lo dejé en el olvido.
It was very common to hear my aunt speak in French, or respond to us in that language, from which I have some memories since I studied French only while I was a teenager, and I abandoned it shortly after, a few years before I got married. I no longer had the influence of my aunt in the practice of the language and like many other things, I left it in oblivion.
Otra razón que me conecta con ese mundo es que desde jovencita fui fiel lectora de las novelas de la escritora inglesa Bárbara Cartland, y en la mayoría de sus relatos resaltaba romances parisinos que se desarrollaban en paisajes como el río Sena, donde las parejas caminaban por el puente o navegaban por sus aguas, de paseos por sus bosques, o algún idilio en los suburbios de ese romántico lugar, bodas en la catedral de Notre Dame, y así siempre en su literatura describía aquellos paisajes relacionándolos con alguna historia de amor. No en vano París es considerada la ciudad del amor.
Another reason that connects me with that world is that since I was young I was a faithful reader of the novels of the English writer Bárbara Cartland, and in most of her stories she highlighted Parisian romances that took place in landscapes such as the Seine River, where couples walked along the bridge or navigated its waters, strolled through its forests, or some idyll in the suburbs of that romantic place, weddings in Notre Dame Cathedral, and thus always in his literature he described those landscapes relating them to some love story. It is not for nothing that Paris is considered the city of love.
Ya después por internet me comencé a sumergir en los paisajes franceses, sobre todo la Torre Eiffel y el Museo de Louvre que son unas de las principales atracciones de ese emblemático país. Su gastronomía que ya disfrutaba en la mesa familiar como el famoso Soufflé, el omelet, los crepés, las papas al gratén, entre otras, porque mi tía tenía un recetario de cocina francesa y siempre nos sorprendía con alguna exquisitez… o los ricos croissant que vendían en algunos cafetines y panaderías y de verdad eran lo máximo.
Later, on the internet, I began to immerse myself in French landscapes, especially the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum, which are some of the main attractions of that emblematic country. Its gastronomy that I already enjoyed at the family table such as the famous Soufflé, the omelet, the crepes, the potatoes au gratin, among others, because my aunt had a recipe book of French cuisine and she always surprised us with some delicacy… or the delicious croissants that They sold in some cafes and bakeries and they really were the best.
En medio de todo ese conjunto de costumbres de una cultura que de alguna manera forma parte de mis ancestros, era natural que tuviera alguna empatía y el deseo natural de querer conocer más de cerca mis raíces, y disfrutar de uno de los lugares más hermosos de este planeta.
In the midst of all that set of customs of a culture that in some way is part of my ancestors, it was natural that I had some empathy and the natural desire to want to learn more about my roots, and enjoy one of the most beautiful places in this planet.
