As the winter season has started to make itself felt thoroughly, I had to take a break from weekend activities such as excursions, barbecues and picnics. Hence, I will complete my draft posts about the places I have been to before. I wrote about the shoreline of the Ömerli Dam in Esenceli Village in my previous post. In this part of my travel writings, I will write about the Ozan Creek, which passes through the Bıçkıdere Village in the Şile district of Istanbul.

Kış mevsiminin artık iyiden iyiye kendini hissettirmeye başlamasıyla birlikte gezi, mangal, piknik gibi haftasonu faaliyetlerine ara vermek zorunda kaldım. Bu vesileyle, önceden gittiğim yerle ilgili,fakat taslak halinde olan yazılarımı tamamlayacağım. İstanbul içi son gezi yazımda sizlere Esenceli Köyü Ömerli Baraj kıyısını anlatmıştım. Gezi yazılarımın bu bölümünde, İstanbul’un yine Şile ilçesinde bulunan Bıçkıdere Köyü’nden geçen Ozan Deresi’nden bahsedeceğim.
When I write about such natural excursions and picnic areas of Istanbul, I can't help noticing, as I meantioned in my previous travel posts, that Istanbul has always been known for its crowd, traffic, unplanned urbanization, skyscrapers, immigrants and as an active city 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On the other hand, Istanbul has villages where cows, sheep, geese and ducks still roam; it has forests, lakes, dams where you can relax and seas where you can swim. These are available on both the Anatolian and European sides of Istanbul. I preferably go to Beykoz, Riva, Şile, Ağva and countryside of Kocaeli.
İstanbul’un böyle doğal gezi ve piknik alanlarıyla ilgili yazdığım zaman bunları söylemeden geçemiyorum. Önceki gezi yazılarımda da bahsettiğim gibi İstanbul hep kalabalığı, trafiği, çarpık kentleşmesi, gökdelenleri, göçmenleri ve 7 gün 24 saat aktif bir şehir olarak bilinir. Buna karşın, İstanbul’un da hala ineklerin, koyunların, kazların ve ördeklerin dolaştığı köyleri; kafa dinleyecebileceğiniz ormanları, gölleri, barajları ve yüzebileceğiniz denizleri vardır. Bunlar İstanbul’un hem Anadolu hem de Avrupa yakasında mevcuttur. Ben tercihen Beykoz, Riva, Şile, Ağva ve Kocaeli taraflarına gidiyorum.
This time, we four friends went to Ozan Creek in Bıçkıdere Village which is located in Şile district of Istanbul on the first weekend of September. We met again the day before, but where we were going was not certain. We didn't want to go to the places we had been to previous weeks. We wanted to go a different place that we had never seen before. We saw Ozan Creek while searching on internet and we liked it very much and decided to go there. In the morning, we took the necessary materials for barbecue and picnic from the market and set off. On the way to Şile, you will see a fork in the road and signpost after entering the Kömürlük Village junction and driving a while. Up to here, the road is the same road to Esenceli Village. From here, we opened the navigation and continued in the direction of Bıçkıdere.
Bu kez 4 arkadaş, Eylül ayının ilk hafta sonu, İstanbul’un Şile ilçesi, Bıçkıdere Köyü’nde bulunan Ozan Deresi’ne gittik. Yine bir gün öncesinden buluştuk ama nereye gideceğimiz kesin değildi. Geçen haftalarda gittiğimiz yerlere gitmek istemedik. Farklı, hiç görmediğimiz bir yer olsun istedik. İnternetten yaptığımız aramalarda Ozan Deresi’ni gördük, çok beğendik ve oraya gitmeye karar verdik. Sabahtan mangal ve piknik için gerekli olan malzemeleri marketten alarak yola çıktık. Şile’ye doğru giderken Kömürlük Köyü ayrımından girip biraz gittikten sonra karşınıza yol ayrımı ve tabelalar çıkıyor. Buraya kadar yol Esenceli Köyü’ne giden yol ile aynı. Buradan sonra navigasyonu açarak Bıçkıdere yönünden devam ettik.
Where navigation took us was not the place we saw it on the internet. We asked a few people on the road, but they couldn't give us proper directions. We drove around the same place for about 15-20 minutes to look for the creek. While we were thinking about going to Esenceli as we couldn’t finde the creek, we decided try our luck for the last time and we went back through the forest road we came from. We drove a few kilometers through the forest, and when we saw people and cars ahead, we came to the conclusion that this is the Ozan Creek. We arrived around noon. When you go down, you come across the bridge under which the Ozan Creek flows. We first crossed the bridge, left the car on the right and went into the forest to explore. This was the first place we came across. It is an environment where you can throw a chair and rest your head next to the sound of running water.
Navigasyonun bizi götürdüğü yer, bizim internette gördüğümüz yer değildi. Yol üstünde birkaç kişiye sorduk ama bize düzgün adres tarifi veremediler. Yaklaşık 15-20 dakika aynı yerlerde dolanıp dereyi aradık. Gelmişken bari Esenceli’ye gidelim diye konuşurken son kez şansımızı deneyelim dedik ve geldiğimiz ormanlık yoldan geri gittik. Ormanın içinden birkaç km ilerledik, ilerde insanlar ve arabaları görünce Ozan Deresi’nin burası olduğu kanaatine vardık. Öğlen gibi varmıştık. Aşağı doğru inince karşınıza Ozan Deresi’nin altından aktığı köprü çıkıyor. Biz önce köprüyü geçip sağ tarafta arabayı bırakıp keşif yapmak için ormanın içine girdik. Karşımıza çıkan ilk yer böyleydi. Akan su sesinin yanında sandalye atıp kafa dinleyecebileceğiniz bir ortam.
On the right side of the bridge, there was nobody but a few families, and it was relatively deserted. We wanted take a look at the left side of the bridge. When we saw the cars going down to the side of the creek, we decided to go the left side. We got the car inside, took out our stuff and settled in a place with such a view.
Köprünün sağ tarafında birkaç aile dışında kimse yoktu ve nispeten ıssızdı. Bir de köprünün sol tarafına bakmak istedik. Dere kenarına kadar inen arabaları görünce sol tarafa geçmeye karar verdik. Arabayı içeri kadar soktuk, malzemelerimizi çıkardık ve böyle manzarası olan bir yere yerleştik.
We lit the samovar, drank our tea and rested for a while. Before we lit the barbecue, we strolled along the creek and took pictures.
Semaverimizi yaktık, çayımızı içip biraz dinlendik. Mangalı yakmadan önce dere boyunca biraz gezerek fotoğraflar çektik.
This is a place people prefer for picnics or camping. Entry is free and there are no facilities. As far as I could see, it is possible to go about 100 meters into the forest where the creek flows by a car. If we had come a little earlier, we could have sat in better place by the creek. There are also places where you can put chairs and tables in the creek. You can do fishing in the creek as well. When you get close to the creek, the frogs jumping into the creek may scare you :) After we had our barbecue and eaten our fill, we wanted to take a stroll in the opposite direction of the creek. After about 50 meters, the forest becomes desolate. If you want a place quiet and nobody around, this is ideal, but you have to carry your materials till here.
Burası insanların piknik veya kamp yapmak için tercih ettikleri bir yer. Giriş ücretiz ve herhangi bir tesis bulunmuyor. Gördüğüm kadarıyla arabayla derenin aktığı ormanın içine yakşalık 100 metre kadar gidilebiliyor. Biraz daha erken gelseydik dere kenarında daha güzel yerlere oturabilirdik. Derenin içine sandalye ve masa koyabileceğiniz yerler de var. Derenin içinde ayrıca balık da bulunuyor. Dereye yaklaşınca dereye atlayan kurbağalar size korkutabilir : ) Mangalımızı yapıp karnımızı doyurduktan sonra derenin aktığı yönün tersine doğru gezinti yapmak istedik. Yaklaşık 50 metreden sonra orman ıssızlaşıyor. Sessiz ve kimsenin olmadığı bir yer olsun istiyorsanız buralar ideal; ama malzemelerinizi buraya kadar taşımanız gerekiyor.

We came back, lit the samovar again. It was 5 o'clock. Tea in the evening; forest air, the sounds of the creek, birds and frogs, we sat until 7 o'clock. I really liked Ozan Creek. In my opinion, this place is more beautiful than the shore of Darlık Lake and Esenceli Village.
Geri döndük, tekrar semaver yaktık. Saat 5’e gelmişti. Akşamüstü çayı; orman havası, akarsu, kuş, kurbağa sesleri derken saat 7’ye kadar oturduk. Ben Ozan Deresi’ni çok beğendim. Bence burası Darlık Gölü ve Esenceli Köyü Baraj kıyısına göre daha güzel.
I traveled a lot in summer and autumn this year, probably due to the effect of the pandemic. We have a boring winter season ahead of us. I already now want the weather to warm up and I want to visit such places again. Meanwhile, as I discover new places, I will share with you on HIVE.
