ecoTrain QOTW S5.4 πŸŒ‡What would I like to see happen to my city spaces?

In this QOTW of @ecoTrain, there is an opportunity I find that we can put our thoughts in to making our city spaces better and in the way we desire to see our city future.

Yes with the lockdowns and so much of business going down and more importantly a lot of business getting online, more and more shops on the roads are shutting down. While it is not a very good thing to see, because it is impacting livelihoods of many people.

But if we have to think on the positive note in this situation, then there can be some pros also; like practically every shop has a store house wherein they store their products and then the front shop where they can sell their products. Imagine if majority of all these front line stores start getting into online business, then there are multiple advantages to the shop owners as well. The most important is that they would save on rentals of the front shop and only need the storage space, second, lesser showroom staff and all the expenses of electricity and other maintenance going down benefitting them in overall cost reduction. But then again one disadvantage here is loss of jobs, which they need to identify how to accommodate, they may also employ the same staff in doing online promotion and sales work. The benefit for the consumer will be saving on time and energy.

So imagine that if our city starts getting these additional spaces then how should the same be put to use. The first thought that comes to me is convert these places to parks, with ample amount of trees and green areas for people to spend their leisure time. The open spaces in the city should be replaced by planting trees in those areas and bringing back more nature and natural surroundings in our city limits. This will to a large extent also help in balancing our climate and temperatures. The more Trees, the better rainfalls and cleaner breathing air in general.

Bigger park areas will allow families to visit there and spend quality time, children will have more of nature to play with, and it will also result in to overall better health for people because more trees will also reduce our carbon footprint. Their energy of nature will also help in people's mental health boost and this will result into low stress levels and better quality of life.

The other thing that I can think about is broadening the roads. Now this is very specific to Mumbai city and other Metro cities of India where this is one of the biggest problem in the city. With the number of vehicles increasing on the roads, the road capacity seems to be getting lesser and lesser resulting into traffic jams and increased commuting time. Increasing the width of the roads will somewhere help easing out on travelling time. Widening the driving roads will help smoothen out the traffic flow within the city, and driving will become much more peaceful. Better infrastructure will help people in many ways.

These are the two prominent things that comes to my mind, that I would like to see happen, if there are open spaces in my city to be used up. What are your thoughts on this?
