Hating Black Teenagers

The Republican Party after Donald Trump is losing its mind. Even now they're not able to simply admit that the 2020 general elections weren't stolen. The refuse to denounce the constant stream of conspiracy nonsense coming from crazy woman Marjorie Taylor Greene. And Rand Paul reacts to the Democrats' plans to raise the minimum wage to a measly 15 dollar by accusing Joe Biden of hating black teenagers...

Look, we can all have our own opinions about everything under the sun, and indeed we do; it's what makes us special and different from every other individual on Earth. But, in order to have a democracy, in order to survive even, we need to agree on what reality is. We need to all derive our opinions from a shared set of facts. The Republican party however is increasingly operating on a set of alternative facts. And the fact that many millions of Americans still support this party implies that they also have left the realm of the real world. I don't know if you've missed it, but GOP congress freshman Marjorie Taylor Greene is is a complete nut-bag. She hasn't met a conspiracy theory she doesn't like. I share her concerns surrounding the 9/11 attacks, but she's completely gone of the rail with her support of QAnon, denial of school-shootings or describing them as "false-flag" operations against 2nd amendment rights, and even blaming Jewish billionaires for starting the California fires with laser-canons in space.

Also she publicly supported the execution of Nancy Pelosi, wants to carry a gun in the Capitol, harassed a school shooting survivor, follows far right Youtubers like Nick Fuentes and last but not least, she has a fast growing base of support. The constant stream of lies and "alternative facts" coming from America's conservative party, the Democratic party's inability to call them out, and the ever diminishing credibility of the mainstream media, has resulted in the current state of public American discourse, in which there's no such thing as truth and where fascists can unabashedly spew their hatred.

The history books will see Trump's time in the Oval Office as a dividing line of pre-Trump and post-Trump eras if the Republican party doesn't clean itself up fast. Since Reagan in the 1980s this party has done everything in their power to prevent a raise of the federal minimum wage and since then they've always used popular memes to gain support for this right wing position; Reagan himself popularized the racist meme of the Welfare Queen. Now in 2021 Rand Paul speaks of "unemployed black teenagers", which is code for "juvenile delinquents" in the minds of many right wing, far right wing and alt-right individuals. Rand Paul reminds us that raising the minimum wage would lead to millions of people losing their jobs and that black teenagers will be the first victims. So the real question we must ask, according to Paul, is why Biden hates black teenagers so much. This is the level of American political discourse; we can now say that raising the minimum wage is somehow racist. This has been the Republicans' defense for decades now, kind of childish if you ask me. Whenever they are rightfully accused of maintaining systemic racism, they turn it around and say that in fact the Democrats are the racist party. And they get away with it, which is unsurprising unfortunately when one of the two parties allows in their midst crazy people like Marjorie Taylor Greene...

And by the way, that story about losing jobs after raising the minimum wage is supported by both parties, which is why the Democrats will only go as far as 15 dollar over the next three years. But that story is a lie to begin with; this story has been used for decades now, and it's bullshit. Mom-and-pop businesses will be hurt, but they can be subsidized by raising the taxes of billionaires and mega-corporations. And those mega-corporations, who are the largest employers anyway, can afford this raise multiple times over. And don't you think that they already use the minimum amount of employees? Do you actually believe that if the minimum wage is raised, they can suddenly manage with a lot less workers? And also think about how fundamentally wrong it is to have an economy in which the prospect of further automation is a horror-story. How can it be that the prospect of needing less work to get the same amount of productivity is feared? We should be overjoyed that we collectively have to work less, but instead capitalism makes us fearful of that prospect. Think about that after watching this delightful video about Rand Paul's racist remarks concerning the minimum wage...
