Things are going on in this part of the world which will make you question if hell is really what people see it as. I mean, many people (including myself) say hell is being in the fiery pit with the devil. Imagine that place filled with eternal suffering and gnashing of it.
You can also say that hell is being made to live in a country where every news is bad news.
The trending page on several media outlets and gossip platforms all over Nigeria is filled with news of all sorts of security threats within the country. It's always about corruption, police brutality, kidnapping, robbery... stuff like that. These things raise question marks about the safety of lives and properties.
It is insanely frightening to imagine how risky it can be to live in a place where your life is always at high risk. Let's not forget that the economic situation is already messed up. Now, the issue of insecurity is breaking the chat. All thanks to these, every day is now a field day for media houses.
Do you know when this shitshow started?
For so many years, Nigerians have been lamenting about the high rate of insecurity in the country. I know every country has some things that make lives inconvenient for their citizens but the least expected in such cases is for the country to find a solution to those problems.
In our case, the government have been putting on a freak show in the name of fighting insecurity. It sounds believable the first hundred times you hear it, but the action of those who claim to be fighting insecurity barely seem to be in alignment with their words.
While nothing is being done to improve the security of lives and properties, the said 'insecurity' continues to grow in scale. Those that spearhead these acts of insecurity are becoming stronger and they consistently run wild with boldness.
Take the South Eastern part of Nigeria for an example;
After the whole issue of lockdown due to Covid19 pandemic (can't blame anyone for that really), they have been forced into another routine sit-at-home every Mondays since August 2021.
This order didn't come from the government or any disease control agency. The order came from a group of extremists who have been killing people and destroying businesses and properties of anyone that chooses to go against their mandate.
At the moment, the southeast has an estimated population of 22 million people - source - is nearing a full year spent without holding any productive activity on Mondays. Businesses, schools, hospitals and co are all placed on lockdown because of this case of insecurity.
Do you see?
Nigeria is already a hotbed for insecurity and all sorts of criminal acts.
