I didnt release this post yesterday because I felt that with the first F1 race around the corner, this weekend, it was just better to talk about F1 season 2022 also this episode was very soft. Also keep in mind Im writing this posts as someone who have never and is not going to play the games so Im not that geeky when it comes to hidden clues like someone who already play the game would be.
Here we are again with another episode full of flashbacks and Ellie feelings expressing how hard it was for her to grow up, I guess Im just asking too much action on every episode, there are parts of the story that need to be said but for some reason I feel the story is turning boring so quick that I dont want two more episodes of story or flashbacks. This week something weird happen, some one who played the games told me
"I dont want to do anything with The Last of Us after game two, this is why I dont want to watch the Tv Show"
As Im watching the Tv show on a episode by episode basis I said I didnt want to know since I havent play the games, episode 6 and 7 have been all about story time, reunion and confessions.
On this flashback we have Ellie and her friend Riley, they were best friends at camp and Riley always protect her until one day she was gone and Ellie start to look out by herself and as part of any flashback we discover more things about Ellie past like how she got bitten.
If you have seen all previous episodes there is no need to say that Ellie is very loyal to Joel and she doesnt see herself without him, Im not saying she is inlove but she cares about him but in good old fashion Joel still an a hole many times. After Joel got stab in the abdomen with whats left of a bat, they arrive to a house where Joel lay down and Elli look around the place for something to stop Joel bleeding but he just ask her to leave and take the gun, "Go north, you go to Tom" he is hurt badly so no wonder why he is saying this, remember he already feels old and that he cant protect Ellie and think this is time to die but Ellie wont let him die like this.
Comes in the flash back, we got Ellie running inside a gym listening to Pearl Jam - All or None and they running because Ellie was slacking so she gets pick on by a girl, bit bully, taller than Ellie, Bethany takes her headphones and when Elli ask for them back start to pick on her and told her she doesnt fight, that Riley was the fighter and she is not here anymore, well you got that wrong.
Thats the look of someone who is about to F you up, Ellie end up detained at Captain Kwnog office who gave her a speech about her potential to be an officer, she is smart and there is no need to behave like Bethany, be smarter about it. Ellie has been put on "The Hole" three times and still have same attitude, that must be some sort of solitary punishment and she still going wild, its understandable if she fells alone and doesn't care anymore. So Kwong ask her to be smart swallow her pride and graduate as officer so she could lead and have a better life.
After escaping Riley comes back, she was Ellie roommate, best friend and it seems they had feelings for each other since the moment I saw them together. Riley comes back to pick Ellie for a night she plan for her and also told her she join the Fireflies. They get outside and into an abandon building where they find a dead guy, I thought he was infected but seems he was just dead for other cause.
F ing Ellie got so close I really thought she would get bitten, I remember from the first episodes how the fungus came out of peoples mouth, thought the same would happen here but like in a cartton the guy falls through the floor, looks like the guy got intoxicated from pills and alcohol.
Ellie and Riley start drinking, talking about how Riley became a Fireflie, jumping from one building roof to another. Remember this is way before Ellie even got bitten, this were the times where she thought FEDRA was the best option humans had, she was actually against Fireflies and questions Riley desicion to a point she called her a terrorist who blow bombs.
Riley told her to stop and she had no time to talk to her because she was actually on a mission at the moment, but she actually plan a night for both to have fun, she was going to show Ellie "The Four Wonders of The Mall"
They get to this mall that is hidden from the outside something that Ellie have never experience, just by going down on the electric escalator she is already amaze, this tell us once again how Ellie was part of that generation after the infection break out who never live society as any of us has.
They start going around the mall, there are all this stores with lights on, most stores are empty and turn up side down, until they get to the first wonder, the carousel.
Riley had a romantic night plan for them both, during the entire episode I thought they were been too reckless, they kept drinking the bottle they found with the dead guy, start laughing, having a good time and its on the carousel where Ellie gives Riley this look, she doesnt know how to express her feelings and ask Riley to come back, they are the futures and both can change things but FEDRA dont see Riley the same way as Ellie, she was giving a watch patrol job while Captain Kwong think Ellie could become an officer.
Second wonder was a photo booth were they took this funny pictures.
Third wonder The Arcade, through many episodes we see how Ellie loves video games and comics
We get to this scene where they start playing Mortal Kombat, I have never been a fan of the game but when I saw Ellie expression so many memories came back when I was expecting a new game to drop and play it for the first time.
Everything was going well until Riley took Ellie to where she has been staying to give her a book she found for her "No pun intended Vol2" but Ellie found some home made bombs and understood this was actually a place to hide the bombs and Riley try to make the situation like it was about a romantic date for both, Ellie got mad at Riley and start going away until they get to a customs shop and talk about it, Ellie ask Riley not to go, to stay with her and kiss her, look like they were going to figure things out and start dancing, they had no idea there was still one infected in the mall.
They start battling the infected but both end up bitten and this is where all started for Ellie, this journey of been the one who is immune to the fungus.
After watching this episode got me thinking, is Ellie really immune or is it just that she doesn't get consume by the infection as fast as others, remember I haven't play the game so this is a question that came up while I was watching the episode, this episode is a flash back, things that happen way before she met Joel, but at least now we know how it all started for her. Joel he still alive and kicking, fighting for his life, Ellie patch him up and lets see what happens to Joel next, Im sure we will probably get some fast forward episode until he can stand by himself.
