Cine TV Contest #26 - Worst Movie You've Seen: Jaws:The Revenge.

In 1988 I was very disappointed, I rented in Beta format what I thought was going to be the most spectacular movie of the Jaws saga titled Jaws: The Revenge.

It shows a plot that has no head or feet, the shark wants revenge on the Brody family and therefore follows the trail from Amity to the Bahamas, additionally we are presented with the excuse that the chief Brody died of a heart attack for fear of sharks when he had the courage to confront and kill two of them. In addition, the shark roars and one of its protagonists, Michael Caine, comes out of the water dry. Brody's widow has flashbacks of scenes she did not witness in the first film.

Ellen Brody (Lorraine Gary) is the only recognizable protagonist left standing from the first film, her youngest son, Sean, now a police deputy on Amity Island, is bitten on the arm and subsequently devoured by a Great White shark while attempting to unhook a piece of driftwood caught on a buoy in Amity Harbor.

In her grief, Ellen heads to the Bahamas to visit her eldest son, Michael (Lance Guest), to try to get over the tragedy. But, the same shark that killed Sean has followed her into the blue waters of Nassau and I wonder how exactly she knew where Ellen Brody's plane was going when it took off from the Amity airport.

Michael Caine, plays an English pilot named Hoagie, who becomes Ellen's love interest, he tries to convince her to stop thinking that a shark wants a personal vendetta against his family to look forward and find love again.

Michael works with his friend Jake, and one morning they discover the sea monster trying to attack them, they decide to hide the truth from Ellen so as not to upset her and try to kill the shark on their own.

Ellen has a special connection with the shark and decides to go in search of it, after her go her son, her son's partner and Hoagie, the shark does not seem to support this and attacks Hoagie's plane until it sinks.

The performances are weak, especially an overacted Lorraine Gary and on the other hand the effects of the shark are pathetic, at the end the shark explodes into a thousand pieces by the effects of electromagnetic pulses and as icing on the cake appears alive Jake Michael's partner, a stereotypical Caribbean played by Mario Van Peebles which was attacked by the creature moments before, I think this shark by not eating this individual is racist.

At least the screenwriters of the Sharknado movies are self-aware of how bad they are and so these turn out really bad but have funny moments. Jaws: The Revenge pretends to be a serious movie however it falls into the most absolute ridiculousness, and is not entertaining, if anyone sees it, it is at their own risk.

This film was released in theaters in 1987, and Michael Caine has been asked if he saw it, to which he jokingly replies no, but he has seen the house he bought several times with what he was paid to act in it.

The director of the film was the late Joseph Sargent who directed other films of much greater interest such as The Taking of Pelham One Two Three in 1974, he also directed for several television projects being some Emmy award winners. For Jaws 4 The Revenge he was nominated for a Razzies Award in 1987 for Worst Director and the film for Worst Picture of the Year.

Other Razzie Award nominations for the film: Worst Actor for Bruce the Shark, Worst Actress for Lorraine Gary, Worst Supporting Actor for Michael Caine, Worst Screenplay for Michael de Guzman, and the only award received was Worst Visual Effects.

There are movies that are so bad that they turn out to be good and cult, because they have a special touch, either in a specific scene, or in their music, or in their actors, or in their script. But Jaws: The Revenge has none of that, it's too far-fetched, and boring in too many parts.

I remember running out to return this movie to the video store, I didn't last a day with it and after a friendly discussion with the clerk, I managed to exchange it for Lethal Weapon with Mel Gibson, how lucky I was that day!

I say goodbye until a next opportunity, good luck to the other participants in this contest!
