To talk about the 80's is to talk about a nice time for me, at least a nice part of my childhood and adolescence, I was born in the year 74, so there are a few movies from the 80's that I like that I watch over and over again and I do not get bored of them, because for me some of them are classics and allow me to see in action some actors in their first participations or in their youth, so choosing a movie was not easy
Before I start or mention which movie to choose and my reasons for it, I wish to first list all the movies that went through my mind: The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Platoon, Dead Poets Club, Terminator, The Untouchables of Eliot Ness, E.T. The Extraterrestrial, Top Gun, Ghostbusters, Bitelchus, Robocop, among others.
Now, after much thought I finally decided on "The Untouchables of Eliot Ness", I think everyone or most of you know the synopsis of this classic that narrates events based on real life, as the agent Eliot Ness a correct federal agent, who is one of those responsible for ensuring compliance with the Dry Law, is determined to catch the gangsters who make a fortune with the smuggling of liquor, Among them the famous Al Capone, who is used to be above the law, so when he realizes that the Chicago police is mostly bribed by the mafia, he ends up creating a team of four men and decides to end the smuggling and put behind bars to the mobster and his henchmen, being an incorruptible and reckless group they were called "The Untouchables".
Now, what I love about this movie, first of all the cast that was chosen to bring these four men to life will always be among my favorites Kevin Costner as Eliot Ness, Sean Connery as Jim Malone, Charles Martin Smith as Agent Oscar Wallace and Andy Garcia as Agent George Stone/Giuseppe Petri, out of all of them my favorite will be Sean Connery, this man always gave a distinguished and great touch to every character he played, but here, in his role as a simple policeman, he gave great lessons to Eliot and the rest of the members of the group, being great the way he used to know if Agent George Stone had what it took to be part of the team.
For me of this classic I would only change one song of the soundtrack, I imagine that for the time it was great, but now it is somewhat flat or slow for some scenes, as tender as they may be, such as the birth of the second son of Ness, on the other hand, and now that I think about it, I do not remember having seen this movie in the cinema, I discovered it thanks to my mother and since that day I love it.
As for favorite scenes I will mention two, one is when after receiving a threat to his family by the trusted thug of Al Capone, Frank Nitti personified by Billy Drago, Eliot meets with his team and the four are armed and together in the middle of the street and then leave there ready to catch these gangsters, The second one is when Eliot Ness and George Stone go to the train station to prevent Capone's accountant from being taken out of the city and in the middle of a shootout at the end Stone, still holding a stroller, makes a great shot.
This movie for me, is a classic, all the cast did a great job and from my perspective immortalizes historical facts and it is also one of the movies that brings back memories of my mother, who loved to watch movies and series, this being one that she never got tired of, she had seen it a million times and if by chance we decided to watch it again she enjoyed it as if it was the first time.
In short "The Intocabels of Eliot Ness" was my choice to share with my movie-loving friends to participate in this CineTV Contest #50 I hope that those who kindly took a few minutes of their time to read me, have gotten in these lines enough inspiration to share with me their comments.
Hablar de los años 80 es hablar de una linda época para mí, al menos una linda parte de mi infancia y adolescencia, nací en el año 74, así hay una cuantas películas de los 80 que me gustan que veo una y otra vez y no me aburro de ellas, ya que para mí algunas de ellas son clásicos y me permiten ver en acción algunos actores en sus primeras participaciones o en su juventud, así que elegir una película no fue fácil
Antes de comenzar o mencionar cuál película elegir y mis razones para ello, deseo primero enumerar todas las películas que pasaron por mi mente: El imperio contraataca, El retorno del Jedí, Platoon, El club de los poetas muertos, Terminator, Los intocables de Eliot Ness, E.T. El extraterrestre, Top Gun, Los cazafantasmas, Bitelchús, Robocop, entre otras.
Ahora bien, después de mucho pensarlo al final me decidí por “Los intocables de Eliot Ness”, creo que todos o la mayoría conoce la sinopsis de este clásico que narra hechos basados en la vida real, como el agente Eliot Ness un agente federal correcto, quien es uno de los encargados de velar por el cumplimiento de la Ley seca, se empeña en atrapar a los mafiosos que hacen una fortuna con el contrabando de licor, entre ellos el famoso Al Capone, quien está acostumbro a estar por encima de la ley, así al percatarse de que la policía de Chicago está en su gran mayoría sobornada por la mafia, termina creando un equipo de cuatro hombres y se decide a acabar con el contrabando y poner tras las rejas a al mafioso y sus secuaces, al ser un grupo incorruptible y temerario se les llamó “Los Intocables”.
Ahora bien, que amo de esta película, lo primero el reparto que se eligió para dar vida a estos cuatro hombres estará siempre entre mis favoritos Kevin Costner como Eliot Ness, Sean Connery como Jim Malone, Charles Martin Smith como el Agente Oscar Wallace y Andy García como Agente George Stone/Giuseppe Petri, de todos ellos mi favorito será Sean Connery, este hombre siempre dio un toque distinguido y grande a cada personaje que interpretó, pero acá, en su papel de policía sencillo, dio grandes lecciones a Eliot y al resto de los integrantes del grupo siendo para genial la manera que uso para saber si el agente George Stone, tenía lo necesario, para formar parte del equipo.
Para mí de este clásico solo cambiaria una que otra canción de la banda sonora, imagino que para la época era grandiosa, pero ahora es algo chata o lenta para algunas escenas, por más tiernas que puedan ser, como por ejemplo el nacimiento del segundo hijo de Ness, por otro lado, y ahora que lo pienso bien, yo no recuerdo haber visto esta película en el cine, la descubrí gracias a mi madre y desde ese día la ame.
En cuanto a escenas favoritas mencionaré dos una es cuando luego de recibir una amenaza hacia su familia por parte del matón de confianza, de Al Capone, Frank Nitti personificado por Billy Drago, Eliot se reúne con su equipo y se ven los cuatro armados y juntos en medio de la calle para luego salir de allí dispuestos a atrapar a estos mafiosos, la segunda es cuando ya quedando solo del equipo de los Intocables Eliot Ness y GeorgeStone van a la estación de trenes para evitar saquen al contable de Capone de la ciudad y en medo de un tiroteo al final Stone aun sosteniendo una carriola realiza un gran disparo.
Esta película parta mi, es un clásico, todo el elenco hizo una gran labor y desde mi perspectiva inmortaliza hechos históricos y además es una de las películas que me trae recuerdos de mi madre, quien amaba ver películas y series, siendo esta una de la que nunca se cansaba, la había visto un millón de veces y si por casualidad decidíamos verla de nuevo ella la disfrutaba como si fuera la primera vez.
En resumen “los Intocabels de Eliot Ness” fue mi elección para compartir con mis amigos amantes del cine para participar en el este Concurso CineTV #50 espero que quienes amablemente tomaron unos minutos de su tiempo para leerme, hayan conseguido en estas líneas la suficiente inspiración para compartir conmigo sus comentarios.
