Dear reader, today, after a long period of abstinence from HIVE, I would like to send you a sign of life again, because our big step to leave Germany finally has been accomplished: we have emigrated to the Philippines!
Until the very end, Germany really didn't make it easy for me to take the final, decisive step. Alone my experiences with recalcitrant electricity providers and 'octopus' insurance companies, who refused to let me go, could fill entire posts, but this time I will spare you all that.
A real blow came right at the end, when we found out on March 6 that we would not be able to fly out the next day as planned, as the entire Frankfurt airport would be paralyzed due to strikes. So under great pressure we had to book another flight on the same day and set off. The earlier arrival meant that we had to stay at Singapore airport for more than 24 hours to wait for our connecting flight to Manila, which had not changed ...
However, we finally arrived safely at our destination, Tagaytay in the Philippines, and so far we are enjoying it very much: it is never cold in Tagaytay, but due to the slightly higher altitude and the frequent (not too strong) wind, it is also not too hot and oppressive. Although we are in the tropics, I haven't come across a single mosquito so far, so we can leave the windows open during the day. The surrounding landscape is fantastic, and our apartment complex is pleasantly quiet but not lonely. We are currently renting a condo from a very friendly US-American married to a Filipina and have already made the pleasant acquaintance of a family from Singapore and a Filipino-Kenyan couple - we really can't complain about a lack of internationality, and our daughter has already made her first friends with other children. :)
Since I am here, the heavy burden on my shoulders, brought along from Germany, feels lighter every day and is increasingly being replaced by a sense of freedom, peace and serenity.

Liebe Leser, heute möchte ich nach längerer HIVE-abstinenter Zeit mal wieder ein Lebenszeichen versenden, denn es ist mittlerweile tatsächlich vollbracht: Wir sind auf die Philippinen ausgewandert!
Deutschland machte es mir bis ganz zuletzt wahrlich nicht leicht, den letzten, entscheidenden Schritt zu vollziehen. Allein meine Erlebnisse mit widerspenstigen Stromanbietern und Krakenversicherungen (bewusst genau so geschrieben), die mich nicht ziehen lassen wollten, könnten ganze Posts füllen, aber damit möchte ich euch diesmal verschonen.
Ein echter Hammer kam dann noch ganz am Ende, als wir am 06.03. erfuhren, nicht wie geplant am 07.03. abfliegen zu können, da der gesamte Frankfurter Flughafen infolge von Streiks lahmgelegt sein würde. Wir mussten also noch am selben Tag in großer Eile einen anderen Flug buchen und uns auf den Weg machen. Durch die frühere Ankunft betrug unsere Verweildauer im Flughafen von Singapur dann über 24 Stunden bis zum Anschlussflug nach Manila, an dem sich ja nichts geändert hatte ...
Schließlich kamen wir jedoch wohlbehalten am Zielort, Tagaytay auf den Philippinen, an, und bisher gefällt es uns dort ganz vorzüglich: In Tagaytay ist es niemals kalt, aber aufgrund der etwas höheren Lage und des häufig (nicht zu stark) wehenden Windes, auch nicht zu heiß und schwül. Obwohl wir uns in den Tropen befinden, ist mir dort bisher kein einziger Moskito begegnet, sodass wir tagsüber die Fenster geöffnet lassen können. Die uns umgebende Landschaft ist fantastisch, und in unserer Wohnanlage ist es angenehm ruhig, aber dennoch nicht einsam. Wir selbst mieten derzeit ein Condo von einem sehr freundlichen, mit einer Filipina verheirateten US-Amerikaner und haben bereits angenehme Bekanntschaft mit einer Familie aus Singapur und einem philippinisch-kenianischen Ehepaar gemacht - über mangelnde Internationalität können wir uns jedenfalls nicht beklagen, und unsere Tochter hat bereits erste Freundschaften mit anderen Kindern schließen können. :)
Seit ich hier bin, fühlt sich die noch aus Deutschland mitgebrachte schwere Last auf meinen Schultern von Tag zu Tag leichter an, um zunehmend durch ein Gefühl der Freiheit, Friedlichkeit und Gelassenheit ersetzt zu werden.

And in this very building we are planning to buy an apartment soon.
We refrained from buying a house because foreigners are not allowed to own land in the Philippines. On the one hand, this is unfortunate, but on the other hand, land prices would otherwise be driven through the roof by the purchases of rich foreign investors to such an extent that only a few Filipinos would still be able to acquire land. |
Und genau in diesem Gebäude planen wir, bald eine Wohnung zu erwerben.
Vom Kauf eines Hauses sahen wir ab, da Ausländer auf den Philippinen keinen Grund und Boden besitzen dürfen. Das ist zwar einerseits schade, aber andererseits würden die Grundstückspreise ansonsten durch Käufe reicher ausländischer Investoren derart durch die Decke getrieben, dass nur noch wenige Filipinos Land kaufen könnten. |
