Hoffentlich hattet Ihr eine schöne Weihnachtszeit und einen tollen Start ins neue Jahr - meiner war sehr beschwingt und ganz im Zeichen von Champagner - dem König aller Weine!
Nach der Fledermaus an der Wiener Staatsoper konnte ich einen beschwingten Jahreswechsel in der Eden Bar genießen und habe dort bis in die Morgenstunden getanzt und gefeiert.
Traditionell wird zu Silvester an der Wiener Staatsoper die Operette "Die Fledermaus" von Johann Strauss gespielt. Dieses Jahr gab es zum ersten Mal zwei aufeinanderfolgende Vorstellungen - eine am frühen Nachmittag und eine am Abend. Ich bin seit Jahren Teil des Ensembles und unter anderem schenke ich im 2. Akt des Stücks beim Song "Im Feuerstrom der Reben" als Diener am Fest des Prinzen Orlofsky Champagner aus.
Nach einer kurzen Feier mit Kollegen in der Oper ging ich ein Stück entlang des Silvesterpfads. Auf der Kärntner Straße waren die Massen unterwegs und je näher ich dem Stephansplatz kam, umso dichter wurde es. Zum Glück kam ich gut durch. Direkt vor dem Stephansplatz bog ich dann in die Seitengassen ein und war schließlich eine dreiviertel Stunde vor Mitternacht in der erst kürzlich renovierten Eden Bar. Die Bar präsentierte sich festlich und dank der umsichtigen Renovierung im gewohnten Ambiente. Die Stimmung war toll und das Lokal sehr gut besucht.
Den Jahreswechsel feierten wir dann bei Champagner - und natürlich durfte ein Walzer nach dem Anstoßen aufs Neue Jahr nicht fehlen. Nach zahlreichen Gläschen, etlichen Runden auf der Tanzfläche und netten Gesprächen feierte ich bis kurz nach 5 Uhr früh. Das späte Heimkommen war dann der Grund, warum ich das Neujahrskonzert der Wiener Philharmoniker nicht um 11 sondern erst später im Stream anschauen konnte.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas season and a great start into the New Year - mine was very upbeat and all about champagne - the king of all wines!
After the Fledermaus at the Vienna State Opera, I was able to enjoy a lively turn of the year in the Eden Bar, where I danced and celebrated until the wee hours.
Traditionally, the operetta "Die Fledermaus" by Johann Strauss is performed at the Vienna State Opera on New Year's Eve. This year, for the first time, there were two consecutive performances - one in the early afternoon and one in the evening. I've been part of the ensemble for years and, among other things, I serve champagne in the second act of the song "Im Feuerstrom der Reben" as a servant at Prince Orlofsky's feast.
After a short celebration with colleagues at the opera, I walked a bit along the New Year's Eve trail. The crowds were out and about on Kärntner Strasse and the closer I got to Stephansplatz, the denser it got. Luckily I made it through. I then turned into the side streets directly in front of Stephansplatz and was finally forty-five minutes before midnight in the recently renovated Eden Bar. The bar presented itself festively and, thanks to the careful renovation, in the usual ambience. The atmosphere was great and the place was very busy.
We then celebrated the turn of the year with champagne - and of course a waltz could not be missing after toasting the New Year. After numerous drinks, several rounds on the dance floor and nice conversations, I celebrated until just after 5 a.m. Coming home late was the reason why I couldn't watch the New Year's concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at 11 a.m., but only later in the stream.
