Hello, good evening, and welcome to another post of mine on
It seems impossible, but the gastronomic experience I'm about to share here was my first time eating Nepalese food! I know, well I know, that Indian food has a lot of similarities, but I couldn't let such a pleasant experience, and what's more, spent in a group, with a fantastic group of friends, not be shared with you here.
Located on Calçada Garcia, at number 15, the whole journey there was a ritual, which I sincerely want to repeat soon...
Climbing up the steep sidewalk, flanked by occasional vendors selling second-hand goods, from shoes, sneakers, electronic items (cell phones, cables, chargers, phones, etc.), and even fresh or dried food products, mostly of African origin, we arrived at the fifteenth number of the street!
To begin with, we began to understand the simplicity and authenticity when, next door, they used the bottom of a plate to display it.
We had a quick look at the list on the door, but we didn't stay long, because the whole group already knew this restaurant. The last time they'd been here was on a Friday, over a year ago, when I got sick with Covid!
So the only newcomer to this restaurant was me!
Once the table was chosen, in a restaurant that was practically deserted at the time, it wasn't a difficult task
Of course, the painting alluding to the name of the restaurant, "Everest Montanha" (Everest Mountain), was also on display.
And now let's get down to business! Let's see if I can decide quickly between the many dishes on offer
A footnote on the menu states that all dishes include Basmati rice, and that spicy may or may not be included (on request)
Just reading the description of each of the dishes presented made my mouth waters
Looking at the options, I ended up choosing a chicken dish
To go with it, I wanted to try the Nepali beer, Khukuri, but unfortunately it was sold out and not available.
In order not to detract from the outing, and as I hadn't taken a car, I decided to accompany one of my friends with a big white muscatel wine, which was surely the best choice I could have made
After seeing how this beer came about at home (wikipedia link), I'm even more sure that it was the best choice I could have made. Nothing is more sublime than a good wine... and this one came perfectly chilled!
My friend T. ended up ordering the Cobra beer, which came with the same outfit covering its glass cover! Perfect!
A charming waiter quickly took our order and exchanged a few pleasantries with us, clearing up the doubts that usually arise for those who haven't tried these delicacies yet
I didn't know it yet, but it's standard practice in this restaurant to present customers with this vegetable appetizer - Vegetable Pakora
A perfect triad of sauces, I stuck to the Tamarind sauce, without any spicy finish! Ahahah
Let's start making combinations! And how good is this combination! I ended up repeating it!
Peshwari Nan
Garlic and Cheese Nan
Garlic and Cheese Nan - I had to start with this one! I was starving, and the starters worked perfectly... or was it the company and the wine? Ahaha
Chiken Meseura -Stewed chicken with meatballs
in skillet in butter sauce,
ginger and peppers
Prawn Korma - look at this.. OMG
Always warm... Such a good experience
Mattar Panner - With fresh notes
of a hot vegetarian dish
cooked to perfection
Chicken Karai - The traditional taste of curry... It brings out the faintest taste of the ingredients and doesn't mask it, as many people think
Chicken Saag
The rice was cooked to perfection, with each grain separated, and always with a very fresh aroma
My friend couldn't resist and ended up ordering a* Mango Kulfi*,
which we ended up sharing for everyone, as the portion was very generous
For a taste break, the Nepalese usually end their meals
with this mix of aromatic spices (such as aniseed), dried fruit and betel nuts (Supaari)
At the end of the meal, as we were only a few days away from Christmas, one of the people present gave everyone a key ring made out of painted diamonds! What do you think of the English Royal Guard key ring? Simply exquisite! I love receiving gifts that people have made or taken the time to make. I love it!
