Another way to enjoy coffee if you’re also into alcohol is definitely coffee cocktails. There are plenty of variations for the recipe. You might have heard something called espresso martini, irish coffee, or even carajillo; these are the standard of spiked coffee but there are many more variations that are made to create a heavenly mix between alcohol and coffee.
Last month, I finally found a place that sells coffee cocktails. Just as background, coffee mixed with alcohol is as rare as finding a needle in a haystack where I live. So, I was fairly excited when I could find the cafe that serves the mix of two. It was not the weekend but finding this rare gem was an excuse for me to get some dopamine boost from the mix of caffeine and alcohol.
The place is located just on the level ground of a famous nightclub in the area. I thought to myself that it was a pretty smart idea; I mean having a boozy cafe just underneath a nightclub. For some people it might be strange to enter the place especially with cafes being a lot more general consumer than nightclubs that are a lot more niche. Still, it was pretty interesting entering this cafe.
Interestingly, in this cafe they are also showcasing a stock ticker. It almost feels like you’re inside a small trading floor. Sadly, they only display national stocks from Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). I was assuming that perhaps it’s what local traders enjoy? A coffee cocktail in hand while also checking out if their stocks are up or down.
Unfortunately, the atmosphere of the place was quite chaotic. While it looks pretty neat and appealing but staff are coming in and out making it a lot busier than it actually is. One thing that intrigued me is that they have different sections for non-smoking, smoking and a mix of both. Their door can be pretty confusing but it simply looks U shaped where it circled back to the coffee bar. Surprisingly, the place was pretty convenient to work from and just observing the local stocks. I stayed there for more than 2 hours savoring the coffee cocktails I ordered.
I ordered an emergency buddy which was made of whisky, rum, espresso and creamer. After finishing that one, I ended up going for the second round with a drink called Stairway To heaven that was amazingly yummy. It was a pleasant mixture of orange juice, milk, rum and espresso. I wanted to go for another round but I didn’t want to do it excessively. I was surprised that they actually put quite a good amount of alcohol and weren't being stingy about it. Usually, a lot of places are being stingy about their alcohol mix but thankfully not that cafe.
Normally, I wouldn’t drink rum with espresso but I just found out from that place, they actually make a good mix when paired with espresso. I typically enjoy vodka with espresso and something like coffee liqueurs rather than rum or brandy. Now I know, rum with some juice thrown in and espresso makes a heavenly drink.
Price wise, they are cheaper than a typical single shot from the bar downtown. It’s a good deal to find something that packs a punch, yummy, and has coffee at lower than $5. I definitely would recommend this place and I also have them on bookmarked since I want to taste their other coffee cocktails. I am also mainly curious about their espresso and gin.
