Matti's Baby-Led Weaning Journey Plates

Almost two weeks ago, I shared here my second BLW or Baby-Led Weaning recipe called Sweet Potato Curry Balls. As a first time mother, I had been researching since the time I learned I was pregnant. I was researching online for the best practices and the best options that I could give my son.

From joining a growing baby class, to enrolling in a lactation consultant meeting, and up to my baby's solids when he reached six months, I had consulted online, groups and communities of mothers whom I could learn things that are needed for me to expand my knowledge in growing and taking care of my baby.

Baby-Led Weaning, although it has been present for a long time, is not very common here in the Philippines. Our parents had been taught that they must feed their babies upon reaching six months. Some would even feed their babies even at three months with solid food. While it is true that every baby is different, there's a basis for why solids should be introduced to at least six months old. I don't want to dive into that topic because what I am about to share are some of my baby's BLW plates.

My mother supported me in this journey although he was hesitant and whenever Matti throws food (he used to throw the food before until recently, this has lessened), she would often tell me that this style of introducing food to Matti is not working but I had to be firm and told her that I am just training Matti, soon, we will reap the rewards of BLW.

Truth is that my niece and nephews are traditionally weaned, they are spoon-fed, they are given the commercial baby foods, and today, they are picky eaters, they are still spoon-fed even at four years old and I don't want that to happen to my baby. I want him to be disciplined that when he is at his high chair, he must understand it is already meal time and he must eat what is in front of him.

At ten months, we are indeed reaping the fruits of our patience and hard work. Matti eats well now, he would pick up whatever is given to him whilst there are still episodes of throwing especially if he doesn't like the food's texture. But this has lessened, most of the time, he is picking and eating and he even dislikes me putting food to his mouth.

Allow me to share some of his plates. Notice that these plates were from four months ago when he just started BLW. I still have a lot of plates to show you. This is just the first set.

For BLW, there's no added salt or sugar in the food served. Spices are welcome and I use olive oil or unsalted butter in frying the food. I enjoy making pancakes, Matti loves them too and would eat a lot if served with pancakes, his favorite is mango and banana pancake. Recently, I figured he also likes dragonfruit pancake. I guess he likes anything that is added to the pancake. I also use blended rolled oats as flour.

That's it guys. I hope you had enjoyed the plates and all the food here! Will share more in the coming days!

Ta-ta!
