How was your weekend, my dear friends? Hope you all enjoyed some nice time off with your family and some good food over the weekend. I really look forward to hearing good news from you.
Today was a rainy day here, Nha Trang. I wake up early to do yoga everyday and the weekend is no exception, 5h30 AM.
I usually drink warm water with organic honey, lemon and chia seeds after waking up, because I think drinking it helps to keep the digestive system moving. As the water moves through your stomach and intestines, the body is better able to eliminate waste. And then I eat energizing snacks such as homemade healthy granola or whole wheat biscotti before my practice.
Do you always find yourself wondering what you should eat before a workout? Is Granola Healthy? Granola is usually considered a healthy breakfast cereal (add your milk of choice and maybe some fresh fruit). It’s a toasted mixture of rolled oats, nuts, and a sweetener like honey. Most granola is rich in protein and fiber, which both contribute to fullness.
If you are interested “How to make Granola”, today I would like to share my “basic” granola recipe. The best part of this recipe is how crunchy and delicious it is. Once you try homemade granola, you won’t go back to store-bought granola. It’s so much better! _It also stores beautifully, so it makes a great homemade gift.
My healthy granola recipe starts with these basic ingredients:
- Whole rolled oats: Heart-healthy, hearty, whole-grain old-fashioned oats keep their shape during baking
- Nuts and seeds: Chopped almonds, pistachios, cashews, and sunflower seeds.
You can choose any nuts what you like - Dried fruit: dried fruit lends some extra sweetness, chewy texture and irresistible fruity flavor. I used dried cranberries for this batch. I also love raisins.
- Honey: Or maple syrup
I added cinnamon to this batch for some subtle warming spice
How to make it
Alright, let’s talk about how to make granola! Simply:
Step 1:
Chop cashews and almonds in half
Step 2:
Remove the skin from pistachios
Step 3:
Toss together the dry ingredients in a large bowl: Oats, almonds cashew, peeled pistachios, sunflower seeds that is. We’ll save the honey for later. But I am too lazy to wash bowl so I use baking sheet instead =)))
Step 4:
Add honey and cinnamon: Drizzle it over the dry ingredients and give everything a good toss until it’s evenly mixed. Spread the mixture out evenly on a large parchment-covered baking sheet.
Step 5:
Bake. Let the mixture bake at 350°F for 20 minutes.
After 15 minutes of baking, add dried cranberries and bake for the last 5 minutes.
Step 5:
Let the granola cool. Wait for about 20-30 minutes, or until the granola has completely cooled to room temperature.
Enjoy! You can either serve the granola right away. Eating granola with yogurt is a good choice.
You keep granola to a sealed container, and it should keep for up to 2 weeks.
