Les cuento que desde Octubre del año pasado me he convertido en una adicta a visitar el centro de uñas para darle un poco más de cariño a mis manitas. Yo nunca había sido persona de arreglarse las uñas con demasiada frecuencia y sólo lo hacía para ocasiones especiales. Hacerlo mes a mes, al igual que muchas otras personas, me parecía quizás un gasto innecesario por más lindas que me parecieran las uñas decoradas con un sutil nail art, además de que en mi pensamiento estaba que no valdría mucho la pena porque el trabajo no me duraría demasiado básicamente por el hecho de que practicaba Escalada, un deporte en donde las uñas de tus manos tienen constante fricción con las superficies, además de que por ese mismo motivo debía llevarlas siempre lo más cortas posibles para evitar accidentes.
Sin embargo, mi pensamiento fue cambiando poco a poco y ahora en lugar de verlo como algo innecesario lo veo como un acto de amor propio y el sólo hecho de dedicarme un poco de atención y tiempo a mí misma me hace sentir bien, a parte ¿a qué chica no le gusta jugar con los colores y las decoraciones en sus uñas? Como les comentaba, mi vicio por arreglarme las uñas comenzó en Octubre del año pasado. En ese mes tendría un evento importante y quería lucir lo más linda y arreglada posible, así que no dudé ni un minuto en ir por una manicura decente. Luego de eso ya no pude detenerme y menos aún considerando el hecho de que me encuentro descansando de la Escalada por tiempo indefinido. Estamos hablando de que pasé cerca de unos cinco años sin llevar uñas demasiado largas ni decoradas, entonces ahora simplemente es momento de aprovechar. En Noviembre del año pasado les conté un poco sobre mi experiencia al haber seleccionado un sistema de uñas almendradas y largo #2, ahora en esta oportunidad les contaré mi experiencia con la técnica de kapping.

Doing it month after month, like many other people, seemed to me perhaps an unnecessary expense no matter how nice I thought my nails were decorated with a subtle nail art, besides in my thoughts was that it would not be worth much because the work would not last too long basically due to the fact that I practiced climbing, a sport where the nails of your hands have constant friction with the surfaces, besides that for the same reason I should always wear them as short as possible to avoid accidents.
However, my thinking was changing little by little and now instead of seeing it as something unnecessary I see it as an act of self-love and the mere fact of dedicating a little attention and time to myself makes me feel good, besides, what girl doesn't like to play with colors and decorations on her nails? As I was telling you, my vice for doing my nails started in October last year. In that month I had an important event and I wanted to look as pretty as possible, so I didn't hesitate for a minute to go for a decent manicure. After that I couldn't stop and even less considering the fact that I'm taking a break from climbing for an indefinite period of time. We're talking that I went about five years without wearing my nails too long or decorated, so now it's just time to take advantage of it. Last November I told you a little bit about my experience selecting an almond nail system and length #2, now this time I will tell you about my experience with the kapping technique.

Hasta el momento había probado dos veces consecutivas con el esmaltado semipermanente. La primera vez me había ido bien, pero ya para la segunda oportunidad comencé a notar la debilidad en las uñas...y no sólo yo lo noté, la chica del centro de uñas también lo notó. En vista de esto la recomendación que me dio fue aplicar kapping con esmaltado tradicional (cosa que no me convencía del todo porque pensaba que el esmalte no me duraría demasiado) o el famoso Dip Powder, al final decidí seleccionar la primera opción. Yo no sé mucho de estas cosas, pero con la información que obtengo de internet y lo que las chicas del centro de uñas me explican, me voy documentando poco a poco. La cuestión es que la lámpara UV/LED que se emplea para el esmaltado semipermanente debilita mucho la uña, así que no es tan aconsejable, y mucho menos si de por sí eres persona de uñas frágiles.
A finales de Diciembre fue así como llegó mi manicura al centro de uñas. Sí, lo sé ¡todo un desastre! Yo había amado con locura el diseño que llevaba, pero sinceramente no me duró demasiado, el esmalte se había caído de algunas uñas un poco más de la cuenta y, además, llevaba dos uñas partidas casi por la mitad. Básicamente por esto último es que la chica que siempre me atiende me recomendó una de las dos opciones anteriores para fortalecer mis uñas.

I don't know much about these things, but with the information I get from the internet and what the girls at the nail center explain to me, I am documenting myself little by little. The thing is that the UV/LED lamp used for the semi-permanent polish weakens the nail, so it is not so advisable, and much less if you are a person with fragile nails.
At the end of December that's how my manicure arrived at the nail center. Yes, I know, it was a disaster! I had madly loved the design I was wearing, but honestly it didn't last me very long. The polish had fallen off some nails a little too much and, in addition, I had two nails split almost in half. Basically because of the latter, the girl who always attends me recommended one of the two options above to strengthen my nails.

El color rojo siempre me ha encantado, además de que hace un buen contraste con mi tono de piel tan pálido. En cuanto al largo, sí le dije a la chica que las rebajara un poco. Todavía no me la llevo demasiado bien con las uñas tan largas, además de que me hacen sentir algo torpe en mis tareas rutinarias.
As this manicure was done in December, I wanted the colors to be allusive to this time of the year. So I selected red, with a subtle white design. I have always loved the color red, plus it contrasts well with my pale skin tone. As for the length, I did tell the girl to take them down a bit. I still don't get along too well with such long nails, plus they make me feel a bit clumsy in my routine tasks.

Al principio pensé que por tratarse de esmalte tradicional el trabajo no se conservaría tan en buen estado por demasiado tiempo, pero para mi sorpresa resistió bastante. Incluso Jackie (la manicurista) se impresionó con lo mucho que había durado esta manicura. Claro está que tenía el esmalte caído en algunas esquinas, pero nada que ver con la manicura antes de estas uñas rojas.

Mientras tanto para este mes, seguiré con ciertos cuidados que apliqué durante el mes pasado, como por ejemplo, emplear guantes al lavar los utensilios de cocina o para lavar ropa y, por supuesto, mantener la hidratadas y humectadas mis manos. El color que seleccioné este mes simplemente lo amo, así que me gustaría conservarlo bastante tiempo durante al menos las tres semanas que vienen.
For this month of January I had only planned to go to have the kapping removed because I wanted to avoid this small expense during this month, but the truth is that I didn't have too much willpower, so I ended up giving in to getting my nails done again. I chose kapping again, but this time I opted for the plain color, without any kind of design or brushstroke. In fact, when I arrived at the place, I was looking at the infinity of colors and I ended up falling in love with this blue that you see in the picture. It looks beautiful and I think I may even repeat it because I simply love it. Maybe next month I'll try the Dip Powder and see how it goes. Many people have already recommended it to me, and I'm really curious about it.
In the meantime for this month, I will continue with some of the care I applied last month, such as using gloves when washing kitchen utensils or laundry and, of course, keeping my hands hydrated and moisturized. The color I selected this month I simply love, so I would like to keep it for at least the next three weeks.
