Hive Music Festival | Week 98 round 2 | "Motivos" by Italo Pizzolante

Hello there, my fellow musicians and music lovers!

This week's cover throws me back to the cycle of performances dedicated to the Bolero genre. I actually cannot believe this wasn't a song included in those performances. However, there are many great songs in the genre that it would be tough to record my favorites.

Motivos is a song by Italo-Venezuelan composer Italo Pizzolante. This is his most famous compositon that dates back to December 1st 1965. It has been performed by Venezuelan groups and also abroad. Around here, I think it is a common song to listen to during Mother's Day. It is a beautiful bolero talking about reason to love. That's the general idea of the word motivos.

As a bolero, it has the usual 4/4 structure and the general slow cadence. This kind of music tends to have rich melodies but are usually slow because the general idea is to sing the lyrics. In an instrumental version, there are some changes to make and the addition of extra ornaments to fill in the empty spaces that are supposed to be in the song for breathing.

As usual, it is a lot of fun to get to explore different genres with the versatility of this instrument. But I've got to say that it is challenging to get a sense of how to adorn the music while playing boleros. Trying to imitate a Requinto make the melodic slurs is tricky when you have to get back to the general strumming pattern. But what's life without having to struggle a bit to get a good video?

Hopefully, you'll enjoy this cover!
