Dealing with setback

Life is no bed of roses. No one ever made it to the top with no obstacles along the way. We fall and fall severally but it's our reaction or response during these setbacks that determine how high we climb.

Setback according to English dictionary means

An obstacle, delay, or disadvantage.

After my youth service, I visualized the future, filled with prospect and hope. This did not turn out the way I had planned it. The little business I started crumbled, running on loss everyday. I had to advise myself to change location. It was easier for me to close down, but instead of shutting down the business, I considered another option and this turned out to be a good choice. There are many times where I had considered a different option instead of yielding to the discouragement that came along with it.

Setbacks are part of life, but they only win when we choose to give up. My favorite way of dealing with disadvantage is looking for a second option. The saying, "if there's life, there's hope" seems to resonate deep into my heart whenever situations seem to weigh me down. I like to handle life easily, simpler than it all seems to be on the outside. I had gone for a job interview where at the very moment I knew I wouldn't be given the job, not because I'm not qualified but because disadvantage seemed to set in and one had to pick himself up.

My simple life seems to help me heal faster. I don't expect much and I'm always prepared for the worst. This is a life lesson I learned after realizing nothing in life is certain, so I learned to expect nothing- it helps me better prepare for obstacles and when the obstacles come, instead of dwelling in the pain, I look for other options.
