Another day at the farm

Hello guys

How are we all doing? The year is about ending and after having done almost all of our harvesting, it’s time to start looking ahead and preparing for crops we will be cultivating next year. This is something we have been doing and today I will be sharing it with you.

Aside farming Rice, Corn, Soya beans and Maize we also cultivate Yam and Cassava. So yesterday, I set out to the farm with my uncle to prepare the seedlings of the cassava and yam we would be using for planting next year.

When we got to the farm where we normally farm our yam and cassava, we were shocked as to how weeds have overwhelmed the entire farm. I was kinda bored because this meant more work. So we cleared the whole farm before we can start forming heaps in other to bury the seedlings.

Once we done clearing the farm, all that was left was to create heaps with sand and bury the seedlings of the yam in some portions of the land and also bury some cassava in other parts of the land. So that we have a balanced farm of yam and cassava.

The seedlings we have buried is supposed to be ready early next year so that when the rains steps in next year, the seedlings would have had time to mature very well. Instead of waiting for the rains to fall before burying them.

As farmers we learn from our past experiences and trust me we have tried waiting for the rains before planting the seedlings and we weren’t able to harvest enough cassava. We were told the best thing to do is to plant them before and not during the raining season.

I will keep you guys updated on how the cassava and yam we planted are doing have a great day and thank you.
